Description

The Technical Support Engineer, Microbiology Instrumentation, performs complex product support to customers remotely via telephone and e-mail and, documents the support events accordingly. This position requires occasional on-site and in-house troubleshooting for complex product issues. Engineers participate and contribute to active programs to increase customer satisfaction including: disseminating complex product knowledge and, participating on R&D project teams to drive serviceability requirements to ensure usability, serviceability and reliability of project meets customer needs. This position also supports the coordination and global infrastructure management for new product introductions as they relate to technical product support.

Primary Responsibilities

Global Field Support
  • Provides technical support, via telephone and email, for WalkAway family, autoSCAN-4, Autoplak/DxM6000, SH2000, WASP and WASPLab devices.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots basic product application and network issues.  This includes the use of related service tools such as, manuals and log analysis;
  • Develops and documents action plans for account resolutions 
  • Performs technical responsibilities of local service personnel such as, performing updates, repairs and installs of application and associated hardware.
  • Identifies and documents key and emerging field issues and creates action plans for resolution.
  • Develops new strategies for issue resolution.
  • Ensures Lessons Learned are incorporated into service documentation
Training
  • Mentors peers (internal or external) in either classroom or field setting.  Field co-travels to receive On the Job (OJT) training.
  • Follows processes and procedures related to Microbiology products and how to properly interact with customers.
  • Critically evaluates peer performance and provides feedback to management team.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for technical content development and review of product specific curriculum
Service Documentation
  • Redlines and/or develops service/ quality documents with assistance from senior professional.
  • Subject Matter Expert (SME) for cross functional site documents.
  • Performs service documentation approval process.
Product Support
  • Represents Global Service at cross functional meetings. Creates presentation and training materials for cross-functional team or, service team meetings
  • Identifies and prioritizes service needs (new parts, new projects,new training/support materials,etc.)
  • Develops overall project timelines and deliverables for service; provides updates to management and overall team.
Service Strategy
  • Identify, develop and implement new service tools, parts, and procedures to reduce service costs globally.  This includes issue tracking.
  • Lead cross functional teams to resolve product issues; device, software; and/or assay issues. Creates and implements service strategies for remote monitoring, tracking, and reporting.
  • Develops service strategy for new product launches and revises service strategy for on-market products.  This includes service costs analysis; parts stocking recommendations; remote diagnostics strategies; life-cycle planning; etc.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field with at least 2 years experience OR Master’s degree in technical field with previous work experience required; 
  • Candidate must be able to correctly interpret engineering documentation and apply interpretations into customer solutions
  • Able to apply knowledge of design and repair of electro-mechanical devices  and should be able to successfully apply complex knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of particular area of specialization
  • Excellent written communication skills and ability to create technical documentation required
