Description

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The Technical Support Controls Specialist is the resident expert on Trojan systems for the identification, diagnosis and resolution of controls issues for plant operators, field service personnel, and the service provider network.   The role requires complex problem solving skills, working competency with multiple controls platforms, and adaptability due to the diversity of work.  Intermittent international travel is to be expected.  The ability to influence others, internally and externally, will be invaluable to the incumbent.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Problem Resolution

* Provides identification, diagnosis and resolution information to customers on   complex, often vaguely defined operational issues

* Interpret and explain technical information to customers at all levels – Operator to Owner

* Advises, revises and validates proposed controls solutions/plans

* Expertly conducts root cause analysis, pushing beyond existing standard analytical techniques

* Work involves solving unique problems, extending the boundaries of existing knowledge

* Capable of working autonomously, with minimal instruction, addressing multi-variate issues

* Customer Focus - Builds and sustains positive and collaborative relationships with customers (internal or external, as applicable)

* Ability to assess hardware and programming needs to replace obsolete controls hardware for customer systems, including an estimate of labour and programming time, in the pursuit of implementing a viable turn-key solution.

Product Knowledge

* Has developed expert knowledge of specific controls software/hardware and serves as the technical expert

* Has developed water treatment system process knowledge, increasing the ability to provide accurate solutions

* Understanding of various communication protocols to assist and troubleshoot integration of OEM equipment into overall plant network 

* Perform onsite diagnosis of issues.  Capable of trouble shooting, repairing, and commissioning controls equipment when necessary

* Familiarity with and working knowledge of electrical, electronic, and mechanical aspects of Trojan systems

* Application familiarity with:  ECT applications, EPA Dose, Drinking water dose control strategies, wastewater dose control strategies, flow balancing and water level management.

Qualifications

BACKGROUND AND SKILL

* Post-Secondary education in a related discipline.  Preference given to P.Eng.

* 5-10 years’ experience in a controls role

* Experience working in a technical service and/or customer service environment; preferably in the water / wastewater industry

* Demonstrated strong problem solving abilities

* Ability to travel up to 20% of the year
