Systems Engineer I (HFE)
Location: Brea, CA

We are looking for a systems engineer with a background in Human Factors Engineering (HFE) to be part of our Clinical Diagnostics Chemistry and Immunoassay Instrument R&D group in Brea, CA.  This is an exciting product development opportunity where the primary responsibility will be to perform the following Systems Engineering/HFE functions:
  • User Understanding: plan, collect and translate information about how users interact with products through a variety of techniques such as: direct observation, interviews, surveys, and persona development.
  • Risk Management: develop task analysis and perform use error analysis.  Ensure traceability to design mitigations and requirements for risk areas.
  • Formative User studies: plan and execute user testing (both internally and externally) including protocol development, test execution and analysis of results (reporting).
  • Human Factors Validation: conduct validation according to industry (FDA) regulations
  • Collect appropriate data to define, identify, analyze, correct and prevent potential system failures
  • Develop test plans and conduct bench and system level testing that cover the expected customer use environment and operation conditions
  • Analyze and develop system and sub-system requirements and relationships with component specifications
  • Analyze, summarize, present, and interpret experimental data to formulate conclusions and make recommendations 
  • Facilitate design FMEAs to drive system design quality
  • Represent the Systems Engineering team on cross functional projects
  • Complete test reports
  • Facilitate FRACAS process
  • Conduct system reliability testing
  • Track system configuration during development phase of projects

Job Requirements



Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Systems Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Human Centered Design or related field - (BS or MS + 0-2 years of work experience).
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (mainly Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency to resolve issues and complete tasks
  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work independently and on cross-functional teams with development groups at other facilities as well as take work direction and follow procedures
  • Work effectively with team members to develop goals and plans, resolve problems, achieve goals, and coordinate efforts within and across departments
  • Statistical analysis skills
  • Solves problems and thinks creatively
  • Ability to apply user-centered design and usability engineering principles to product research, development, and design
  • Ability to interface with customers in a highly professional manner
  • Commitment to excellence and quality to external and internal customers
  • Commitment to established Human Factors policies and procedures
  • Well versed in the “human element” and able to empathize with a wide variety of users
