Description

The Staff NPD Sourcing Specialist will use professional and skilled procurement practices to strategically source new product commodities globally assuring long term supply for Beckman Coulter at world class levels of quality, delivery and total cost.  Specifically, contribute to new product development initiatives, assist integration of acquisition's procurement processes, and provide leadership and direction on improvement projects.
The Staff NPD Sourcing Specialist is a core member of the New Product Development team who is the key role in reporting Total Cost of Goods per product, evaluating competitiveness of quotes between suppliers and creating estimates on costs. This person has an internal drive to achieve lowest cost of our products and align our Sourcing Plans with our Corporate Global Commodity Strategies. 
The position will be a dedicated liaison between R&D Engineering and suppliers, be a technical expert on supplier capability, be a strong advocate of DFX and VAVE during development, and build supplier relationships to optimize speed to market and cost.  Position will be responsible for: NPD procurement project execution, new product supplier selection, supplier workshop facilitation, strategic partnerships with suppliers, long-term contracts, and material cost and delivery management.  Ultimately, this position will drive to Production Procurement readiness, and successful transition of new parts to Operations group.
Key Responsibilities include:
  • Representing Global Sourcing and serving on core team (or Supply Chain sub-team) for NPD programs in the NAO business units
  • Driving early and often engagement of key suppliers in NPD programs to accelerate project timelines, in alignment with Corporate Global Sourcing and Danaher strategies
  • Create Sourcing Plans for all phases of projects from Concept to Product Transfer to Manufacturing, detailing supply plan, target and actual costs, and ordering strategies
  • Challenging and negotiating cost and pricing with suppliers is a key expectation after detailed analysis of quotes obtained and estimates created
  • Managing NPD projects by working with cross-functional teams to achieve and drive project execution to meet NPD procurement performance targets
  • Research/benchmark new suppliers/technologies and become SMEs in their technical capabilities.  Be a technical solution provider to NPD teams.  Collaborate with other OpCos to leverage solutions.
  • Align project or RFQ with correct supplier via capability matrix
  • Partner with Global Sourcing and Danaher Corporate Procurement in developing supplier partnerships and commodity strategies, leveraging relationships and total business spend
  • Drive strategies for fast-turn part acquisition, i.e., additive manufacturing technologies
  • Assisting on the development of the NPD sourcing playbook on how to execute appropriate NPD procurement and early supplier engagement
  • Cross-functional engagement to foster respect, trust, and mutually successful relationships in support of the NPD and IDP toll-gate processes.
  • Utilization of the DBS tools – VPM, SDR, SPPO, VAVE, Kaizens/supplier workshops, BOM Tracker, Procurement Template, to drive continuous improvement
  • Driving Producibility reviews between supplier and R&D engineer to ensure DFM and capability.  Provide DFX input to design engineers.
  • Material readiness for Alpha and Beta builds, and smooth transfer to Operations by ensuring suppliers are production-ready
  • Identifying and prioritizing potential solutions for optimizing total system value (quality/cost/reliability/manufacturability/customer value).
  • Develop, hone, and execute new improved NPD Procurement strategies across global sites.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment to meet NPD Procurement performance targets.
  • Perform NPD procurement cost analysis and set appropriate project benchmark targets.
  • Hold overall responsibility and accountability for maintaining the key metric for the project TCOGS (Total Cost of Goods Sold) and Material Scorecards during Product Development

Qualifications

  • A Minimum of a Bachelors Degree is required. Mechanical Engineering or related technical field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience
  • Strong skills in negotiations, communications, leadership, and ability to influence (with suppliers and internally)
  • Experience of project leadership and management, planning, and execution
  • Broad Global Supply Chain and TCO experience
  • Technical knowledge and ability to engage with R&D teams.  Ability to read engineering drawings and specification.
  • Knowledge of design and manufacturing methods: plastic injection molding, die casting, sheet metal, machining, electronics, value-add assemblies, etc.
  • Team-minded with ability to build excellent working relationships with colleagues.  Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across cultures and staff to create a results-driven team-oriented environment.
  • Cross-functional communication skills to foster respect, trust, and mutually successful relationships
  • DBS (Or Equivalent) Training & Process Deployment
  • Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement performance in all elements of supplier management (i.e., quality, delivery, cost & inventory management)
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to focus efforts, overcome obstacles and complete key objectives.
  • Innovative “out of the box” thinker that gets things done.  Uses common sense approach.
  • Special Qualifications – Legal Experience, Contract Management
  • Comprehension of cost drivers, ERP systems, payment terms, and supplier performance management

The primary responsibility of this position will be to optimize the cost structures of our New Product procured materials & services with key suppliers in support of our financial business needs.
