Description

Labcyte seeks a highly motivated candidate to join its R&D team.  This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Mechanical Engineering and will be responsible for the mechanical architecture, design, integration, test, and transfer to manufacturing of acoustic liquid handling systems.  Qualified candidates must be able to work in a cross-disciplinary engineering team to develop and introduce new products.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required
  • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10+ years of relative experience, including:
  • Architecture and design of capital equipment
  • Technical leadership of mechanical engineering effort on interdisciplinary (ME, EE, S/W, chemistry, biology) development projects
  • Interaction/Management of industrial design and mechanical engineering consultants
  • Definition, development, and NPI of low to medium production volume products (10’s to 1000’s /year)

Skills and Attributes Required
  • Track record of innovation in mechanical engineering design
  • Demonstrated ability to architect instrument systems, develop creative and cost-effective designs, and define and execute thorough test programs
  • Design of high-precision linear and rotary motion systems and mechanisms
  • Design of fluidics and pneumatics subsystems
  • Design of frames, chassis and enclosures
  • Design for EMC and Safety Compliance
  • Design for Manufacturability, Serviceability and Reliability
  • Design of metal castings and/or molded plastic parts
  • Design using a phase-gate process from Requirements through Production Release
  • Design to cost targets
  • Highly proficient with SolidWorks and PDM/EPDM
  • Perform FEA to determine stress, strain, deflections, reaction forces and thermal effects using SolidWorks Simulation
  • Strong understanding of standard and geometric tolerancing
  • Excellent documentation skills using MS Office Tools
  • Design Verification planning, test execution and reporting
  • Reliability testing
  • Disciplined in BOM generation and management
  • Strong Analytical abilities resulting in defendable designs
  • Superior understanding of PLM systems and product configuration management, including the creation/submission/driving of ECOs.
  • Perform NPI activities to ensure smooth handoff to manufacturing
  • Sustaining support and incremental product improvements
