Description

The Staff Development Scientist develops new product designs, processes, new product scale-up, design/product optimization, technology transfer and process/product validation activities. Develops production procedures and process/product specifications.  Includes laboratory roles.


This position will lead the development of complex microbial and molecular biology assays consisting of reagents, panel assays and instrumentation through collaboration with cross-functional teams. Ensure product compatibility with customers' requirements, provide input and recommendations based on clinical experience and/or knowledge of customer/patient needs. The position is in the Research and Development group which is responsible for reagent and assay development on our Microbial diagnostic platform.


Additional Job Details:



  • Lead the development of assays, reagents, assay preparation methods and test protocols


  • Transfer of assay design from R&D to Operations


  • Characterization of organism’s antibiograms, drug resistance mechanisms and biological nature of variance in resistance under various environmental conditions


  • Write laboratory reports, SOPs and supporting quality documentation


  • Development of training and troubleshooting materials to assist assay transfer to manufacturing


  • Maintain awareness of technology and competitive trends in Medical Microbiological Diagnostics


  • Execution of microbiology and chemistry assays

Job Requirements



Qualifications

The candidate must have a strong background in microbiology and molecular biochemistry. Success in this position will require:



  • Experience in development of microbiology assays, reagent preparation methods and test protocols including experience transferring designs to manufacturing


  • Strong ability to write, present and communication verbally in a clear manner and be able to work in a multidisciplinary team environment


  • Ability to perform knowledge discovery and analysis of technical research publications as it applies to product development


  • Take initiative and lead when necessary to work through cross-functional issues


  • Understanding and practice strong laboratory technique and good documentation practices


  • Attention to detail, methodical and meticulous problem solving


  • Ability to perform work independently and within a larger cross-functional group


  • Expertise in molecular biology techniques and tools for protein/enzyme analysis


  • Working with ISO 13485 and GMP quality systems with demonstrated experience working in BSL-2 laboratory environment preferred


  • Expertise in working with medically important strains of bacteria and yeasts preferred


  • Expertise in application of Lean, 6-sigma, Kaizen and 5S principles to problem solving and continuous improvement


  • Able to apply statistical methods necessary for successful data analysis and interpretation including DOE, and process and test method validation.


  • Bachelor’s degree in field with 9+ years of experience OR Master’s degree in field with 7+ years of experience OR Doctoral degree in field with 4+ years of experience
