Sr. Systems Engineer

Position Objective 

This position has the responsibility for systems level investigation, development and integration of the Pall ForteBio instrumentation platform. This person will investigate current issues with ForteBio instrumentation to determine root cause and provide solutions as well as investigate new break through innovations that can be applied to products. This person should have a broad understanding of instrumentation such that they are able to integrate mechanical, electrical, fluidics and optical systems.

Essential Job Functions  

Innovate: 40% 
  • Investigate new technologies, and work with marketing to identify based on VOC and turn them into proposals for new technologies that solves customers challenge better than any competitors. - 
  • Evaluate new technologies, and provide a technical point of view for feasibility. 
  • Collect proof-of-concept data, and work with product managers to determine essential features and specifications for the product development teams. - 
  • Quickly be able to create prototypes and test systems than can be used to validate the design. 
  • Use critical thinking and scientific process to evaluate new potential advances and discoveries. 
Develop: 40%
  • Work closely with manufacturing and PE in development process to ensure design is transferable.  
  • Design of fixtures and accessories that allow for the investigation and analysis of subcomponents.
  • Perform detailed optical and fluidics system and subsystem design, optimization and tolerance analysis  
  • Integrate and assemble instrument systems in prototype and development phases.  
  • Conduct testing and reporting in both component and system level. 
  • Perform hands-on bring-up, testing and troubleshooting of optics and associated control electronics. 
Manufacturing Transfer: 20%
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and support to transfer design to manufacturing and QC.  
  • Establishing and maintaining strong technical knowledge of Pall ForteBio and other instruments as well as relevant competing products and companies.  
  • Provide support to service and manufacturing to investigate POR and fast and complete close out as well as product improvements. 
  • Create and maintain system engineering documents.

Job Requirements


Basic Qualifications
  • B.S. level education in relevant field (e.g. Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years' experience with detailed and systematic problem solving and troubleshooting of life science instrumentation in order to determine root cause of issues.
  • 3+ years'working with optical systems, electrical systems and microfluidic systems.
  • 5+ years experience with understanding complex instrumentation and system designs involving optic, electrical, mechanical and firmware with the ability to analyze and document the system.
  • 3+ years experience with understanding of instrumentation that would enable the integrations of mechanical, fluidics, electrical and optical designs to create prototype systems for feasibility and evaluation.
  • 3+ years' experience authoring and presenting complex data to engineering, marketing, scientists and management.
  • 2+ years' experience transferring final designs to manufacturing and operations, including packaging, transportation/shipping requirements, standards testing and QC testing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven ability to demonstrate innovation along with research and development of new break-through productsand features.
  • Good Communication Skills and strong in technical writing and presentation
  • Problem Solving Skills
