Works on complex problems and projects of moderate scope where analysis of the situation or data is required to identify root cause and implement countermeasures. The Sr. Sustaining Engineer will be responsible implementing solutions that are identified field failures or post shipment defects. In addition, this person will be responsible driving product and process redesign to facilitate improving field installation and manufacturing yields, while reducing ASCOS and MTBF. The Engineer will work with R&D and Quality to incorporate design changes, by completing risk assessments, and design verification and validation. The Engineer will write and conduct process validations (IOPQ and TMV) within the manufacturing operations prior to design release. The Engineer will lead small cross functional teams, participate in data and cost analysis reviews, identify scope of work and provide technical leadership and guidance to the manufacturing personnel. 
  • Post launch analysis of high field product performance or failure of chemistry reagent and chemistry related hardware consumables. 
  • Plan and conduct independent work requiring root cause analysis, troubleshooting, adaptation and modification of processes, standardizing, design for manufacturing, all while devising new approaches to processes. 
  • Independently perform most assignments within their identified job responsibilities with limited direction from supervision while working collaboratively with cross functional teams.
  • Timely, communication of business related issues or opportunities to upper level management. Responsible for completing design change process and validation per corporate procedures and guidelines: Conduct risk assessment PFMEA, verification and validation assessments to ensure the safe and environmentally sound start-up of new/changed processes.
  • Ability to conduct control and variation statistical studies to establish process capabilities and product performance to specification and system performance requirements. 
  • Write process validation protocols (IOPQ/TMV) and work with the Manufacturing and Quality teams to complete and assure high confidence and successful results. 
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross functional teams and other Danaher Operating Companies. 
  • Organize and lead cross functional teams (Field/Customer Service, Development, Quality, Manufacturing and Supplier Quality, etc,.) to facilitate troubleshooting and problems resolution to assure timely Root Cause and implementation of Countermeasures. 
  • Train and mentor production personnel and lower level technical team members.

Job Requirements


  • Education and Experience BS Organic Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. 
  • Minimum 5 years Life Science chemistry and/or consumables, sustaining or manufacturing process engineering. 
  • Alternatively, 5 years in R&D responsible for current or post launch product design.
