Position Summary:

Responsible for technical support of all laboratory instrumentation and associated systems.

Essential job functions

  1. Review and work with engineers on development of test procedures
  2. Select appropriate test equipment and execute project with minimum supervision
  • a. Review job order, relevant (SDS) (Safety Data Sheet) and fully understand requirements in accordance with laboratory SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
  • b. Assure all calculations (utilizing basic mathematics and statistics) are performed correctly
  • c. Monitor test performance, test equipment, and data acquisition
  • d. Perform functional testing and trouble-shooting of equipment and systems by utilizing standard scientific principles
  • e. Ensure test set-ups and procedures produce repeatable and quality results
  • f. Apply technical training, knowledge, and experience in analyzing, investigating, and resolving assigned test related problems
  • g. Must document and prepare information (i.e. actual procedure, raw date, and results) appropriately in the Laboratory Database
  • h. Keep project manager updated on progress of testing and any pertinent observations or testing deviations. Recommend solutions for problems encountered

3. Perform flow/pressure/temperature/and other testing of hydraulic manifolds, liquid filters, and air products to include vibration, endurance, and impulse testing and electrical support.

4. Review timelines and discuss scheduling conflicts or modifications with laboratory management

5. Sets-up and tests complete units and subassemblies under operational conditions

6. Inventory and issue POs (Purchase Orders) for equipment, materials and parts to support performance of tasks

7. Perform analytical testing on research and development qualification projects and outside customer projects

8. Recognize and take action on any equipment/instrumentation that requires calibration or repair

9. Provide training and direction to other test technicians for set-ups, testing and documentation

10. Must identify and participate in continuous improvement activities through Kaizen events

11. Collaborate with internal and external customers regarding laboratory processes and conduct tours of the laboratories

12. Perform analysis work related to microscopy, materials science, and chemistry. Typical projects include that analysis of fluid samples and filter elements, filterability testing fluid properties testing, etc.                      

Job Requirements



Must have an Associate Degree (in Aerospace Maintenance, Electrical, Power Plant, Petroleum Repair) from an accredited technical college/university. In lieu of a technical degree, must have at least five (5) years of working experience in aerospace qualification testing in multiple aerospace products.

  1. Must have experience and knowledge of air and fluid mechanical systems and electronic controls.
  2. Working knowledge of basic mechanic hand tools (i.e. screw drivers, wrenches, drills, saws, etc.)
  3. Knowledge and experience with Data Acquisition and control (National Instruments Labview preferred)
  4. Knowledge of process automation and data acquisition
  5. Must be able to deliver quality results within the specified timelines.
  6. Must be able to read complicated technical specifications and procedures.
  7. Must have the ability to identify issues and problems, generate solutions, and choose appropriate alternatives using root cause analysis where problems are more complex
  8. Ability to install, operate, solve, and repair test hardware systems
  9. Must be computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel (i.e. creation and maintenance of spreadsheets and Power Point)
  10. Must have a Knowledge of and experience with mechanical engineering principles to an extent that can be used to design and fabricate fixtures and set-ups that need to be safely used in the laboratory.
  11. Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  12. Must be able to maintain and work within a safe working environment as identified by the Safety important metrics (i.e. 5S, Safety Audits, etc.)
  13. Available to work the Shift schedule 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. M-F. Must work overtime as assigned
  14. Must be U.S. Citizen or Green card holder.
