The sourcing Manager is responsible for balancing the company's end to end sourcing operations, and for meeting Global Sourcing savings targets as well as serving as an escalation path for delivery, quality, and supplier management issues. The ability to manage multiple complex projects and to develop the supply base to meet corporate and business unit objectives is critical. You must have the ability to evaluate and select new suppliers along with Engineering, Quality and Regulatory to select strategic partners worldwide. Must have strong understanding of global trade, the need for constant change and identification of new technologies. 
  • This position is based in the MolDev San Jose facility, supporting San Jose facility Operations, R&D and commercial teams and provides support to Shanghai facility as needed. Ability to travel domestically 10-20% of the time required, may travel internationally.

  • Manage the company's supply portfolio ensuring transparency of spending; Generate and implement efficient sourcing and category management strategies

  • Manage multiple supplier relationships: New parts; supplier changes; yearly negotiations; pricing and payment terms
  • Ownership of positive relationships between Molecular Devices and suppliers leading to the best cost, quality, delivery and service
  • Optimize sourcing procedures to attain maximum efficiency 
  • Understanding & ownership of Supplier Selection Processes
  • Owns the overall Commodity spend and is responsible to secure savings in line with annual objectives
  • Works closely with Product Development on new projects to deliver new supplier relationships, technologies, or co-development solutions
  • Supports operations procurement teams to deploy global sourcing strategy and help resolve parts supply or quality issues
  • Work closely with other relative departments such as Finance, service, sales etc. to improve expense efficiency by optimizing process and supplier base

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Supply Chain, Engineering or related field.
  • Proven work experience as a sourcing manager or procurement manager
  • Experience in lean manufacturing environment
  • Awareness of lean tools desirable, examples: 5S, Standard Work, KANBAN, Policy Deployment, Value Stream Management, Visual Management.
  • Experience in ERP systems, Oracle is preferred.
  • Commercial skills and contracts composition experience.
  • Good negotiator and decision maker; strong analytical skills, use of data to drive decisions.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills
  • International business and multi-cultural experience
  • Understanding of market dynamics and sound business judgement
  • Ability to travel domestically and possibly internationally, 10-20% of the time.
  • Driven individual with passion for quality and manufacturing great products
  • Strong competency in driving for results, and ability to gain followership and enlist help from others
  • Openness to coaching, with strong collaboration, communication and team work skills
  • Ability to compile reports, analyze data, and present in meaningful manner
  • Comfortable presenting/training in front of groups as well as via phone
  • Strong attention to detail/accuracy, meeting deadlines, and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities
