The position of Senior Research Scientist and Group leader, Biologics Sample Preparation Products is responsible for the leading R&D programs for the development of sample preparation foundational technologies and product development initiatives for Biologics (mAbs, Proteins, mRNA and other biologically derived therapeutics). Leading a team of scientists and working with marketing team, the position will oversee projects to identify, develop technology capability, and products for meeting unmet needs in the extraction, enrichment, purification of biomolecules prior to analysis.  This may include leading a team of synthetic and analytical chemists to develop novel magnetic bead-based and other separations technologies, consumable devices, and other sample preparation assays, including direction of development of analytical techniques used in technology or product evaluation. This role will also include support of biologics sample prep products through directing the  application and applied technology work, in order to produce literature, seminars, publications, and training.

• Lead team to develop eMagnetic bead platform technology and execute on related technology roadmaps in the Field
• Study and understand sample preparation methods and problems within Field in order to drive and direct development efforts.
• Develop technology roadmaps required to bring new products to market, including understanding key technology subsystems, technology gaps, and potential options to build technology capability both internally, as well as through plans to close gaps through open innovation, licensing, etc.
• Effectively lead approve research programs with the Field, including proper research, planning, resource allocation, control and completion.
• Lead technical support and trouble-shooting investigations in cooperation with the Technical Dept. to support customer and product needs.
• Support technical and manufacturing personnel in the transfer, optimization, scale-up, and troubleshooting of all new production methods and SOPs
• Maintain detailed, accurate, legible records of all experiments, and graph all relevant trend data along with the appropriate controls and blanks
• Maintain all instruments and equipment in excellent condition, keep all work areas neat and clean, and follow all safety procedures without exception
• Plans, executes and manages project activities with full responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and employees
• Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to launch and promote new methods and products to the scientific community.
• Travel as required (15-20% ) to meet program goals, including potential international travel
• Perform other functions required for the development, commercialization and/or support of new products, as required

Job Requirements


• PhD or equivalent in Material Science, Biochemistry, or related field with min. 5 years industry experience in a separations technology/product development role.
• 2-3 years direct experience in development of magnetic bead-based separation devices targeted towards the separation,  extraction, clean-up, or enrichment of mAbs/Proteins with understanding of both upstream and downstream purification strategies
• Sound knowledge of both end-use analytical methodologies for product evaluation, as well as instrument techniques to characterize key performance or quality characteristics of technology subsystems.
• Excellent working knowledge of current instrumentation, robotics, and automation is desired.
• Strong ability to think “outside the box” and apply your skills creatively to solve real-world chromatographic method/application problems  
• Experience in managing or supervising staff researchers and technicians
• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, execute and manage multiple complex projects
• Outgoing personality with excellent English and presentation skills, and a love for public speaking. 
• Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.
