Beckman Coulter is a Danaher company, operating in two industries: Diagnostics and Life Sciences. 


Purpose of the Position:  Initiate and perform research to support the advancement of Beckman Coulter technologies related to dye-protein and nanoparticle-protein conjugation for use in flow cytometry. 
Develops novel approaches for protein conjugations that allow fast and reproducible antibody-dye conjugate generation. 
Optimizes and simplifies antibody-conjugate purification protocols to improve yields and scalability.  Establishes internal relationships and leads interactions with reagent development and manufacturing to streamline antibody-conjugate development. Actively publishes results in peer-reviewed journals, generates intellectual property filings that describe technologies and applications that will lead to an innovative and robust technology pipeline.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

Perform research on dye and nanoparticle conjugation focusing on optimizing the yield and biophysical properties of conjugates for applications in cellular analysis. 
Develop efficient and scalable purification protocols
Keep thorough records of experiments, analyze and present research results on meetings and in publications
Interact with external partners to design and evaluate novel technologies and applications for cellular analysis.
Develop and track Research Project Plans
Maintain scientific and industry awareness by reviewing literature, competitive IP filings, participating in meetings. 

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities necessary for this job. 
Good knowledge of protein chemistry, biochemistry, and/or related fields.
Minimum of 2-4 years of experience working in protein purification/characterization research on the bench. Experience with proteins that are difficult to work with (aggregation, limited solubility, etc.).
Hands-on experience with modern protein-characterization techniques.
Motivated self-starter with demonstrated ability of successful results, including publications, presentations, intellectual property generation.
Ability to understand complex scientific, engineering and business concepts
Demonstrated ability to be flexible and resourceful. 
Knowledge of safety precautions required for working with blood-borne pathogens at Biosafety Levels 1 and 2.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Good communication skills.

Job Requirements


Education and Experience: Ph.D. or MS in Biochemistry/Protein chemistry or related field, and a minimum of 2-4 years post-Ph.D. experience or 7-10 years of post-MS experience relevant to the job requirements. Some organic chemistry background and experience with fluorescent molecules is a plus. 

Language Skills:  Must be proficient in writing, and communicating in the English language.  
Reasoning Ability:  Good problem solving, judgment and decision-making skills are required.
