Description

The Project Manager will be responsible for the execution of Research and Development projects. The work will be performed at our Concord facility, in conjunction with our worldwide project teams. The project teams are cross functional and could consist of hardware, software, product management, manufacturing, regulatory, quality, service, among others.  

The Project Manager (PM) in this role will be based in Concord and will report to the Senior Manager of Hardware Project Management.  

Responsibility and Authority
The Project Manager will be responsible for all activities within his or her project teams.  These include:
  • Applying project management methodology in efforts to: develop new technical capabilities, knowledge and design concepts (R&D), productize new scientific and technical capabilities, and to manage the evaluation/resolution of field issues (Sustaining). 
  • Responsibility for delivering assigned projects on-time, on-budget, and with the required scope, and suggesting trade-offs between the three as needed per project priorities.
  • Developing cross-functional plans together with the project team including realistic but aggressive timelines, budget and resources planning, risk assessment and contingency planning.
  • Preparing and executing countermeasures against schedule, cost or scope slips. Driving the team to “out-of-box” thinking and creative issue resolution.
  • Maintaining control over the project by measuring performance and taking corrective or preventive action where appropriate.  
  • Acting as spokesperson for the project, which includes presenting status to the leadership team, understanding the communication needs and styles of stakeholders, and responding accordingly. 
  • Preparing and presenting at project reviews in accordance with project practices.
  • Coordinating resources with Functional Managers and Portfolio Managers to ensure that no required roles go unfilled.
  • Developing a risk management plan and executing risk management processes, developing risk responses to eliminate or reduce the probability and impact of project risks.  Ensures that contingency and fallback plans are in place if risk events are realized.
  • Ensuring that the project meets expectations for manufacturing transfer in terms of design release, procedure readiness, bills of material readiness, etc.  Works with the receiving manufacturing sites to ensure that specific requirements are met. 
  • Completing project closure activities.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Graduate engineer or scientist in appropriate discipline (Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems is preferred)
  • Minimum of 10 years as a PM with experience in development of complex products. (management of teams performing HW development preferred)
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, formal presentation) at all levels of the organization
  • Has Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience with Agile software methodology a benefit
