The role is for a senior product manager, responsible for one of our capillary electrophoresis product lines.  This position establishes clear business justifications for projects, represents the voice of customers to prioritize product requirements, manages product lifecycle, defines value propositions, establishes pricing and discount policies across one of our CE product portfolios and ensures that quality products are delivered to customers on time. A strong understanding of product management and market research best practices is required.  Knowledge of capillary electrophoresis in the life science and diagnostic industries as well as an understanding of mass spectrometry is preferred.  This role will require close interaction with R&D, Sustaining Engineering, Quality, Planning and Manufacturing. The candidate will need to be able to work in a fast paced environment in a lean organization and must be willing to roll up their sleeves to ensure the job gets completed.  

Main position objectives: 
1. Take ownership and drive decisions for one of our premier capillary electrophoresis product lines
2. Manage the entire product line life cycle for this portfolio (including software and consumables)
3. Specify market requirements from all major geographic regions supported by on-going market research with customers and non-customers
4. Work cross-functionally with R&D, Sales, Marketing, Quality, Sustaining Engineering and Manufacturing to support the execution of projects and manage the existing portfolio of products

Reporting Relationship
Reports into the Senior Director, CE Business 

The Senior CE Product Manager, has the following responsibilities:
* Develops Business Plans and achieve organizational alignment for future products 
o Estimate market size, segmentation and target market definition to drive a long term product roadmap for both new and existing products, globally
o Evaluate business opportunities in terms of return on investment
o Manage updates to product roadmap considering priorities, resources, and competitive landscape
o Present business cases to Business Unit for new product development  
* Manage the product development road map for the assigned CE portfolio 
o Interact with key internal and external customers globally to understand problems, obtain feedback on new and existing products, and identify solutions
o Conduct market research to identify opportunities for current and future products
o Synthesize customer input to deliver to product development team and identify user and buyer personas, user needs, and product roadmap
o Provide leadership and direction for all internal associates and external partners responsible for the project to ensure projects are successfully completed on time and consistent with organizational goals
* Project Manage key aspects of product commercialization to ensure success in meeting revenue goals
o Management of internal efforts required for product commercialization, including interfacing with Quality Management Systems, R&D, and related roles
o Organize and drive activities cross functionally related to global product launch, including developing positioning, sales training, pricing and collateral development to ensure product launch execution
o Determine if sales training and tools are adequate and complete post launch, and drive activities to fill any remaining gaps
o Owns the marketing specifications for these product lines and is responsible that the balance between competitiveness and achievability is maintained to ensure the future sales performance of the products
o Owns pricing and discounting structure for these CE products and coordinates with Sales Operations to ensure price lists and discount matrix are accurate and communicated to the field organization
* Monitors business and ensures tactical execution is on track to meet revenue, profitability and strategic goals
o Monitors financial performance of these CE Product Lines (revenue, profitability and AUP) both at and after market, and establishes KPI’s for the product line’s financial performance and develops countermeasures when performance is not met
o Tracks the competitive landscape, monitors competitors activities and performs win/loss analysis to derive the right conclusions and countermeasures for tactical marketing campaigns and next generation of products
o Monitors the product quality for these CE products and develops countermeasures when targets for product quality are not met
o Manages customer, client, and support functions expectations of product and services
o Manages full product life cycle including product end-of-life (EOL) in alignment with business needs

Job Requirements


The Person
Certain personal attributes and requisite prior experiences will be necessary components of the successful candidate’s background for the role: 

Education and Work Experience:

1. Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Marketing, Business Administration or related field; Master’s degree  is considered a strong plus
2. Demonstrated intimate knowledge of analytical products in the life sciences is preferred
3. Ability to perform exceptionally in fast paced, performance oriented environment
4. Experience working in a global environment 
5. Experienced influencer capable of managing large teams without direct management responsibilities

1. Proven ability to influence decisions across all levels of an organization, including executive level
2. Strong time management and organizational skills.  Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities and changing business needs.
3. Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently and through effective lateral influencing

6. Strong analytical capabilities
This position requires travel to customer and non-customer sites globally, with additional travel to trade shows and SCIEX sites (minimum 25%).
