Job Description Summary

Manages people who lead cross-functional teams that are focused on the delivery of a product or computer-based system from design to release for customers. Develops, defines and executes project plans, schedules, budgets and deliverables. Identifies needed resources for projects, defines and assigns major project roles. Monitors the product/program/project from initiation through delivery, interfacing with external customers or field-based employees on technical matters, as needed. Assigns and monitors work of project/program management staff, providing technical support and direction. This position is most common in a matrix type organization, where the position does not have true responsibility over product development but does have overall product/program/project management responsibility, i.e. coordinating efforts leading to product release. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. >

Job Description

This Senior Operations Program Manager will oversee the management of either A) all the Automation Tool developments (currently about 8 capacity expansion projects and 12 CIP projects), or 2) all of the Mold Tool developments (currently about 5 NPI projects, about 40 capacity expansion projects, and 5-10 Enhancement/Major-Repair projects).  His/her primary responsibilities are to ensure a Rationalized Roadmap is created and maintained for all the projects within the Program (i.e., Automation or Molds), to oversee/facilitate the creation of a Visual Project Management (VPM) for each project within the Program, and oversee the Project Leaders who drive the execution of all the projects progress within the given Program.  The Sr. Operations Program Manager will be, or become, certified in the DBS VPM tool.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain the Rationalized Roadmap for all the projects within the Program (i.e., Automation or Molds)
  • Ensure, oversee, and facilitate the creation and maintenance of Visual Project Management (VPM) for each project, with appropriate exceptions, within the Program
  • Monitor and validate the status (scope, timeline, and resources) of all the projects within the Program as reported by the associated Project Leaders through regular review the project VPMs, and initiate mitigations and/or escalations to address issues where projects are not tracking according to the VPM plan of record
  • Lead/facilitate cross functional teams (Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Finance, Human Resources, etc.) in conjunction with Project Leaders
  • Interface with external vendors, as required, to ensure appropriate engagement and accountability in conjunction with internal resources and activities
  • Prepare/maintain/present monthly Program bowlers, action plans, and status reports for L2 Operations Reviews
  • Establish/maintain and monitor the Product Life Cycle (PLC) process for the Program to ensure continuous improvement to the PCL process

Qualifications

Minimum requirements (i.e. education, years of experience, skills, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree  in Engineering, Bioengineering or relevant discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level with 8+ years of related work experience ORMaster’s degree in field with 6+ years of related work experience OR
  • Doctoral degree in field with 3+ years of work experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in a Technical Operations setting
  • 5+ years of direct project/program management experience in Manufacturing or Engineering
  • Experience managing other Project/Program Leaders either directly and/or in a dotted-line reporting structure
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Understanding and application of product lifecycle methodologies
  • Advanced project management skills, including time and risk management and project structuring
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the demonstrated ability to work with and lead cross-functional teams effectively; the ability to work through organizational barriers

Preferred requirements

  • Experience and/or certification in the Danaher Business System (DBS) Visual Project Management (VPM) and Rationalized Roadmap tools
  • Working knowledge (or better) understanding of Six Sigma, Lean, and/or Toyota production System methodologies
  • Program Management Professional (PMP) Certification or similar
  • Experience in Quality System Regulations (QSR) 21 CFR 820 and Design Control: ISO 13485:2003
