Description - External
This engineering position, will support Value Engineering activities and objectives for
Beckman Coulter’s Indianapolis location. Candidate will develop and drive projects to
achieve value engineering annual metrics. Projects will include redesign of current
production instruments to improve quality and generate cost savings. Candidate will be
accountable for solving complex technical issues in product development and
procurement environments. Work will encompass the entire gamut of product
development including: Concept, Cost Analysis, Stakeholder Buy-in, Design, Supplier
Communications, Change Plan Documentation, Testing and Verification, Regulatory
Compliance, Transitioning designs into production, and Obsolescence of replaced parts.
Candidate will use structured problem solving, engineering expertise, design tools (such
as SolidWorks, Minitab, Excel, etc.). Projects must be delivered while not impacting
current production. This role includes high level design activities as well as hands-on
activities in the lab and on the production line. Candidate must apply analytical skills to
interpret data and uses independent judgment and discretion in developing solutions to
a variety of work problems of moderate scope and complexity.
This position reports directly to the Value Engineering Manager through the
Procurement organization. Value engineering annual savings goal is $500K - $900K.

Job Requirements


Qualifications - External
 Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years experience in product
development and product engineering support role or Masters Degree with 3+
years experience
 Experience with instrumentation (equipment) design and integration including
complex electro-mechanical systems, fluid handling, pneumatics, thermal
systems, and/or optical systems preferred.

 Technical expertise in Machining, Die Casting, Extrusions, Stamped Metals.
Experience with Plastics (Injection Molding, Blow Molding, and Machined).
 Experienced in using SolidWorks, Performing Tolerance Analysis, and GD&T.
 Demonstrated capability to troubleshoot and improve mechanical and
electromechanical systems using formal problem solving methodology with
analytical and statistical methods.
 Able to work well in a matrixed organization and demonstrate strong
communications and diplomacy competencies
 Experience in dealing with design changes in a structured design control/change
environment for medical devices
 Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to focus efforts, overcome obstacles, and
complete key objectives
 Excellent technical writing and PC skills required (MS Office).
 Experience transitioning design changes into a production environment in
coordination with all facets of supply chain support activities
