Senior Diagnostics Consumables Engineer - Metrology


The Consumables Engineering team is seeking a Senior Metrology Engineer who will apply their experience with advanced metrology techniques to develop test and measurement methods to ensure a sustainable, large-scale consumables metrology program. The successful candidate must be able to use their knowledge of mechanical design, materials, and GD&T to engineer custom solutions, improve current designs, interface with vendors, and enable large scale metrology of consumables for the medical device industry. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on individual contributor to apply measurement science to evaluate, develop and validate test/measurement systems, provide technical analysis, subject matter expertise and guidance, drive resolution of measurement challenges, and develop calibration methodologies and techniques.



Responsibilities:


This person will be responsible for ensuring high quality metrological methods are developed and sustained to support Cepheid’s growing Consumables Engineering operation.


• Drive the understanding of metrology technology to assure that our capabilities meet technical requirements, and represent the most appropriate technology available


• Develop an understanding of the metrology tools, software applications, programming, fixtures and processes to investigate root cause and troubleshoot issues


• Perform statistical analysis and provide technical evaluations, such as capability studies, correlation, off-site studies, and gauge R & R studies.


• Perform and coordinate SPC analysis


• Partnering with engineering & quality organizations to investigate and resolve process and test measurement systems


• Develop, implement, and sustain metrology documentation


• Providing key input to the global metrology strategy for Consumables Engineering


• Project management for multiple and concurrent efforts with a high degree of coordination


• Establish working relationships with vendors for outsourcing of engineering services and fabricated components


• Draft and take ownership for procedures of testing, inspection, and functional evaluation of consumables metrology techniques.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

Position Requirements:


• BS in Engineering or other technical discipline


• 5 to 7 years of related work experience


• Strong understanding of GD&T, Gauge R&R, TMV and statistical analysis


• Familiarity with Minitab/JMP and basic knowledge of FMEA, SPC, and DOE


• Experience with inspection and measurement techniques


• Excellent verbal and written communication skills


• Must be proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications


• Working knowledge of GMP, ISO, and FDA rules and regulations


• Experienced with creating drawings, BOMs, product specifications, and technical reports.


• Quality Management System experience



Preferred Qualifications:


• Project management experience would be a plus.


• Basic machining skills are a plus


• Industry experience in medical device consumables


• Experience with CMM (coordinate measuring machine) or CNC (computer numerical control) equipment


• Experience with plastic injection molding and part design


• Experience in project management fundamentals


• Proficiency with SolidWorks.


• Experience with failure investigations and root cause failure analysis


• Ability to lift 10 - 20 lbs
