Description

POSITION SUMMARY:


The position of Research Supervisor will be responsible for directing all activities for a team of three while meeting the goals and objectives of the department. This position is responsible for R&D in the field of x-ray analytical instrumentation while participating in the development of innovative and advanced elemental analysis based on advanced x-ray optics, sources and detectors. This role will need to work cross functionally across multiple departments and with many leaders across XOS. 


Responsibilities:

  • Schedule and prioritize department workload while providing direction to associates
  • Evaluate associate’s performance through effective performance management to include coaching, training and developing associates. 
  • Provide expertise in analytical methods and have strong problem-solving skills for our XRF analyzers 
  • Play a pivotal role in driving innovation to advance the analytical capability in x-ray fluorescence with strong critical thinking, innovation mindset and robust research disciplines. 
  • Drive toward building technology funnels and creating technology building blocks
  • Provide technical guidance and support for new product developments
  • Contribute to technical solutions and methods for bottleneck problems.
  • Create technology funnels that contribute to XOS growth.
  • Effectively lead research projects within R&D, including proper planning, resource allocation, control and completion.
  • Drive DBS culture and continuous improvement activities

Qualifications

  • Communication and Interpersonal skills;

  • Creates a collaborative and team environment 

Required Skills/Experience: 
  • At least three years’ experience within a manufacturing organization. 

  • Previous experience in a supervisory or mentorship role

  • Three years or more research experience with demonstrated success in R&D environment or post-doc research.

  • Strong skills in linear equation and matrix solving, C and C++ basic. 

  • Strong background in solid state physics, material characterization, and atomic physics

  • Experience with a metric and results driven culture

  • Prior experience with utilizing lean methodology and tools to drive toward continuous improvement

  • Experience setting and managing to budgets 

  • Solving daily critical technical issues in related projects and R&D activities

  • Leading technical developments in related projects

  • Communicating technical insides and solutions to the engineers

Desired Skills/Experience:  
Spectral analysis in XRF or optical field is a plus.

  • Communication: Interpersonal skills that build productive relationships and influence others, both within the business and across organizations.

  • Analytical Problem Solving: Able to identify problems; apply structured and focused methodology to identify root cause using data. Innovative and effective solution development, risk mitigation and execution.


Education 
Ph.D in Physics or Material Science and related discipline preferred
