Description

Purpose of the Job

Responsible for R&D development or improvement projects for any product in the R&D strategic plan which may include any aspect of hardware, control systems or disposable products associated with our portfolio of biocontainers, mixers, bioreactors and any supporting devices such as connectors. Working from early phase (definition of specs) through concept and design and then into testing and validation. Supervision of first builds at the manufacturing site and also all documentation to support release of the product to the market.

Duties

Responsible from A to Z for R&D projects:
  • Be one of the architects of our mixing drives, containers and disposable systems: Mechanical design;
  • Design and development of plastic injection moulded components and oversee the validation of mould tools
  • Be able to create new designs that provide benefits and/or solving problems;
  • Build and test and refinement of prototypes for checking of DFM, functionality and usability;
  • Identify and select relevant raw materials, components, manufacturing/assembly processes and suppliers necessary for the realization of prototypes and products; Follow-up, check and challenge suppliers’ progress;
  • Responsible for preparation of technical documentation of products and of the systems (mechanical drawings, technical specifications, FAT/IQ/OQ);
  • Assist in performing functional and performance tests on prototypes with our internal application specialist department;
  • Provide practical and technical assistance to other engineers in design, assembly, manufacturing and maintenance tasks;
  • Listen, understand, translate internal and external customers’ requirements;
  • Write procedures, documentation and reports related to tests and tasks performed; 
  • Serve as an expert on your field/products and challenge the technical concepts of your colleagues;
  • Work in close collaboration with team members and other departments.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

Core Skills
  • Experience with project management (in an R&D environment a benefit)
  • Strong technical problem solving skills (in our labs or at clients) 
  • Experience with prototyping techniques
  • Fluency in written and spoken English (company language)
  • Be autonomous whilst being a team player
  • Be solution driven with strong sense of urgency
  • Very good reporting skills (written and spoken), adjusted to your audience
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to visit suppliers and customers.

Eductation & Experience
  • Bachelor or Master degree in engineering, preferably mechanical, design or equivalent (engineering experience and training such as Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, ONC/HNC) 
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience
  • Knowledge of machine design or knowledge of design of plastic components
  • Knowledge of 3D CAD program (SolidWorks/Inventor)
  • Knowledge of strength calculations via software simulation is an asset
  • Knowledge of process, equipment and component validation
  • Knowledge of EC machinery directive is a plus
  • Use of 6-sigma tools is a plus
