Overview:


Sea-Bird Scientific has an immediate need for an enthusiastic, highly motivated Project Manager to lead new product development and sustaining efforts of the R&D organization in partnership with the business units.  The Project Manager reports to the Director of Product Management with the primary responsibility to manage and control new and/or current major projects, overseeing the product development process from initial business case development, to transfer into manufacturing, and commercial launch.  The Project Manager functions as the team leader of a cross-functional team with full responsibility for the project from both business and technical perspectives.  The Project Manager is accountable to the Product Planning Group. This position is based out of Sea-Bird Scientific’s Bellevue, WA site, and the candidate will work closely with team members at our Philomath, OR site.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of projects and programs that lead to product conception, definition, design, and release to manufacturing, and commercial launch.

  • Develops, maintains, and executes detailed project schedules, project plans and budgets.

  • The Project Manager leads the development efforts by cross-functional teams and is responsible either directly, or indirectly through delegation for all project management requirements. This includes but is not limited to:

- Plans and execute projects to meet Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives

- Develops project plans following PMI based standards

- Manages the critical path of the projectDevelops risk plans and sometimes proactively manages risk on assigned projects using the impact chain and other tools.

- Develops project schedules using standard project management practices like work breakdown structure, resource leveling, network diagrams, and scenario analysis

- Compiles, records, and distributes required status reports, test results and other required documentation

- Maintains development related documentation and the project history file.

- Manages stakeholder communication from individual contributor level to senior level management on project status, issues, risks, and opportunities

  • Organizes and actively participates in technical design reviews across electrical, mechanical, software and chemical systems 

  • Organizes and actively participates in project phase change reviews.   

  • Adheres to quality system requirements in the development of new products.

  • Develops and implements team building activities or exercises as needed. 

  • Develops and fosters contacts with customers, technical experts, dealers, sales people, and regulatory agencies.

  • Demonstrates knowledge on how and when to apply DBS tools like 3P and standard work to a project.  

  • Receives supervision primarily on unique and unusual situations.  

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Engineering, Oceanography or a related field with 5 plus years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience.  MBA is a significant plus.
  • Work experience should include people management experience and 1-3 years in project or technical management leading multi-disciplined projects.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or similar is strongly recommended
  • Fast learner able to quickly become adept at using the Danaher Business System tool set
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage team by influence in a matrix organization. 
  • Readily accepts responsibility and accountability for project success and key decisions
  • Understands the functions of product development and builds partnerships between functions and cultures to accomplish the goals of the project
  • Travels as necessary to aid in project facilitation
