Position Summary and Overview:
Project Manager - Building, Design & Cost reporting into the Site Programme Manager as part of the Programme Management Office with accountability for successful value driven design of the proposed site expansion programme with broad cross-functional teams.
Within the framework of delegation by the Site Programme Manager or Site Leadership Team, the Project Manager - Building, Design & Cost is responsible for managing the execution of the design in accordance with the project design deliverables in addition to directing and co-ordinating external design partners, and the internal cross functional teams.


  • Fully accountable for on-time delivery of project design within the agreed scope & budget.
  • Effective Partnering with Management Team to provide solutions to support project delivery.
  • Provide leadership to project teams to create and deliver robust and detailed project plans. 
  • Identifying and monitoring project activities to achieve required delivery and quality through:
    • Effective review of project proposals and plans; conferring with management and development of project objectives
    • Determining project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements and assigning personnel to phases and activities
  • Responsible for clear and concise reporting and escalation to project sponsor of project progress, risks, countermeasures and issues
  • Ensuring Quality, Regulatory and Environmental, Health and Safety Policies are integrated in to site project standard work. 

Job Requirements


Skills and experience:

  • Educated to BSc level in a relevant discipline or equivalent
  • Demonstrable and relevant experience of successful delivery of design programmes including people management experience
  • Demonstratable experience of budget management and design cost management
  • Knowledge of the building sector and standards
  • Be competent in the use of appropriate CAD software
  • Experience of working with local regulatory authorities, knowledge of government schemes & incentives.
  • Strong understanding of CDM (Construction Design Management) Regulations


  • Proven track record of ability to deliver projects on time, in full and within budget.
  • Ability to identify, apply and manage best practice in project management principles.
  • Excellent organizational, planning and prioritization skills
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal/written/presentation/relationship building)
  • High levels of initiative, self-motivation and energy
  • Financial/commercial Awareness
  • Able to spot complexity and understand approaches to manage it
  • Able to form effective and lasting networks with colleagues across functions
  • Rapid learning ability to deal with complex and novel situations
  • Hands on mentality with a strong ability to get into detail as necessary.
  • High levels of integrity, confidence, independence and collaboration skills

Travel Expectations (include approximate overnight stays per week):

  • Travel expectations are minimal within this role are project specific and commonly <5%


  • This role shall be based at Newcastle upon Tyne

  • This role will report in to the Site Programme Manager
