Description

The Project Engineer is responsible for managing the design, development and qualification of new programs while conforming to customer requirements (quality), and delivering them on time and within budget.  You will be expected to engage and direct the activities of a cross-functional team of technical professionals including Design Engineers, Designer/Draftsmen, Technical Writers, Configuration Control Specialists, and Staff Scientists as necessary to
provide technical direction, project management, and leadership for your assigned programs. You will also be expected to work closely with sales, program management, operations, scientific laboratory services, and external suppliers, providing leadership as necessary to ensure the success of your assigned programs.



• Lead the project team in rigorously adhering to the NPI design process.
• Drive risk mitigation activities for assigned projects.
• Drive quality and on-time-delivery of assigned projects.
• Lead engineering projects beginning at sales kick-off, through design
  and qualification to acceptance by operations (production readiness approval).
• Plan, execute, and report on the technical design, schedule, and project status
  of assigned programs.
• Identify, manage, and mitigate engineering, technical, and schedule risks


  associated with assigned programs.
• Drive cross-functional support and obtain buy-in for assigned programs from


  external customers, sales, engineering, operations and quality to ensure their


  success.
• Provide ongoing support to operations and customers for your assigned


  products.



• Deliver quality engineering outputs the first time.
• Create mechanical designs using Catia 3-D solid modeling software.
• Work with CAD designers and draftsmen to create all levels of drawings


  required for manufacturing and assembly of the product.
• Assist in the design of tools, gauges and fixtures required to manufacture,


  inspect and test the product.
• Specify PAC manufacturing and process specifications to control


  manufacturing processes.
• Work with external suppliers to define purchased products.
• Create and maintain technical documentation for all design work.
• Drive issues to root cause using Problem Solving Process (PSP), make fact


  based decisions.
• Demonstrate conformance to customer requirements.
• Perform design validations activities including dimensional tolerance analysis,
  stress analysis, fluid flow calculations, similarity (to existing qualified design)
  analysis, and other analyses as necessary.
• Perform/lead logistics analysis activities (Design Failure Modes and Effects


  Analysis, Reliability Prediction, Time to Repair, etc.).
• Prepare development test plans and procedures to mitigate technical risk.
• Prepare qualification/certification test plans and procedures to verify designs


  and/or obtain airworthiness approval.
• Engage technical resources (analysts, writers, etc.), both internal and external,


  in a timely manner to mitigate risks, validate product and ensure project


  success.
• Fully understand all Engineering Operations Procedures.


• Travel (<15%) is required, both domestic and international.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

 Bachelors of Science in mechanical or aerospace engineering, and a minimum 


 of 3 years   of experience in Engineering Design / Project Engineering


 experience.  Aerospace New Product Introduction experience is preferred.


• Experienced in spreadsheet analysis, report writing, and 3-D solid modeling


  software applications.


• Working knowledge of drafting standards and GD&T.


• Familiarity with aerospace materials.


• Familiar with engineering software e.g. Mathcad, and TK Solver.


• Experienced in engineering project management.


• Basic knowledge in the areas of stress analysis and fluid dynamics.


• Familiar with ISO 9000 engineering design requirements.



• Good team leadership skills.


• Strong verbal and written communications skills.


• Good team player with customer focus.


• Ability to multitask and problem solve.


• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.


• Solid Modeling and 2-D Drafting skills.


• Good working knowledge of the design process.


• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
