Description




Purpose of Position




  • The purpose of the Product Planning Manager is to identify, define, and quantify new business opportunities in order to drive product innovations and technical breakthroughs to our core markets and relevant adjacencies. This business focused position develops and/or redefines current businesses, products, and business models for Hach Company.


 


Essential Functions




  • Drives innovative business opportunities through the DDS process pre-TG0 to TG3, through the use of rigorous Voice of the Customer and business analysis tools.


  • Manages New Product Development (NPD) Projects to assure maximum return in investment taking into account risks, market size, investment, and margin.


  • Identifies customer-centric needs and desired outcomes through extensive customer research and provides this input to the R&D / ATG organization to identify compatible technologies


  • Leads the successful handoff to the Product Management team at TG3 and owns the Design Output Requirements through TG5.


  • Works closely with ATG globally to define new product innovations and technology success criteria for use in the ATG’s research and technology identification activities


  • Analyzes business potential of new technologies identified by ATG and is responsible for bringing them into the business unit.


  • Assists in the development of the business unit Policy Deployment and KPIs. 


  • Works with Product Managers in creating, executing and analyzing VOC plans; links prioritized customer needs in price/performance on product lines with focus on future product requirements including enhancements and break through.


  • Leads business partnership relationships with external providers of product innovations; secures contracts and licensing agreements for innovative products and technologies with 3rd Party/Open Innovation partners in order to assure high-margin business models


     


Other Non-Essential Functions




  • Supports the Ideation Process within the business unit.


  • Works as an Active participant in the development of the annual strategic plan




  • Performs other duties as assigned


Job Requirements



Qualifications




  • Education, Background and Skill Requirements




    • Bachelor's degree from reputable university in a technical or business field, MBA or equivalent highly desirable


    • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in product development or business management (e.g. Marketing, Product Management, Business Development)




    • Water Quality industry, application, product and technology experience is preferred, but not required




    • Good understanding of Voice of Customer research methodologies and applications (e.g. observational techniques, focus groups)


    • Experience in financial tools related to valuation of project opportunities ( ie – discounted cash flow analysis, ROI)


    • Experience in product definition and stage gate development process


    • Ability to present highly complex, technical, or difficult messages clearly and persuasively




    • Capable of working cross-functionally through Leadership by Influence




    • High energy, proactive, people-oriented and results-oriented approach to work and learning


    • Languages: Chinese (fluent), Written English (fluent), Spoken English (good)


    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint
