Description

Summary of Position

The primary purpose of this position is to provide tactical and strategic support for product definition, market understanding, and promotional activities for new and existing products, including leadership of product management-related projects. The output of these efforts will be the development of a well-defined product road map designed to deliver the company's growth objectives, successful new product launches/commercialization and attainment of on-going revenue and profit expectations. 

Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions
  • Works with other product line team members to develop key deliverables/objectives on an annual basis to support business unit activities
  • Designs and executes Voice of the Customer (VOC) data gathering (via phone, internet and mail surveys and in-person interviews) and Pareto analysis to support definition of new product specifications and relevant in-depth customer understanding
  • Links prioritized customer needs in price and/or performance of assigned product lines to key customer needs/wants and feeds the business unit roadmap with these inputs
  • Provides assistance for in-market and adjacent space opportunity analysis and makes recommendations for capturing share
  • Identifies and communicates opportunities for growth: builds business case for new products and product enhancements with focus on key drivers
  • Conducts basic competitive and market research and analysis, and develops recommendations and sales tools based upon findings/conclusions
  • Analyzes product lines including sales, profitability, volume, inventory, and F/X, and summarizes analysis into key takeaways and actions
  • Performs market modeling such as number of facilities, price, and units per year to determine estimated market opportunity
  • Identifies obstacles to achieving commercialization initiatives; develops, executes and monitors countermeasures
  • Participates in product planning, and leads product launch, sustainment/growth, and product phase-out steps of lifecycle for a given product, delivering per timelines and action plans
  • Sells the product line to internal customers, including the marketing team and sales force
  • Supports the sales organization through high-level consulting
  • Provides training to the sales channel and internal customers for assigned products to drive increased technical competency, application experience, value to the customer, etc.
  • Leads other product management-related projects, such as obsolescence, enhancement, and refinement analysis and execution
  • Develops and provides technical and commercial presentations to customers
Other Responsibilities and Functions
  • Assists in the creation of Policy Deployment action plans and provides input and tracking of deliverables
  • Writes and delivers technical papers for assigned products
  • Participates in key trade associations and technical committees
  • Participates in value selling exercises
  • Maintains clean, orderly and safe work area
  • Maintains a commitment to teamwork and a positive, supportive attitude to all personnel
  • Supports continuous improvement activities (DBS)
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
  • Observes and complies with all safety regulations and company policies

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in technical or business field
  • 3+ years of marketing or product management support experience
    • Strong project management experience
Skills and Competencies
  • Basic understanding of product financial analysis, including product pricing, product costing, gross margin, inventory value, and inventory turns
  • Effective personal and project team time management
  • Demonstrated project management competencies, comprehension of critical project elements, and conversion into plans for rapid product development
  • Able to empathize with customers, translating needs into products
  • Basic understanding of financial valuation techniques, including NPV, ROI, and payback
  • Basic understanding of classical marketing including 4Ps, marketing mix, product WOWs, demand creation
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of customer segments and product applications of product portfolios, including understanding of impactful trends
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of the product line sales channels and identification of opportunities to leverage strengths to drive additional sales
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
