About The Role

This is an opportunity for a Development Design Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team and become a core member of this Engineering team, which is a backbone of Videojet business. Almost all new product development of industrial continuous inkjet printers is developed by the R&D multi discipline Engineering Team, of which the Mechanical Department is the team responsible for designing and developing all hardware parts, from concept to finished product. This includes prototyping and testing of mechanical assemblies throughout the development phases.

About The Person

You are hardworking, willing to tackle new projects and deliver results on time to required standards. You will be able to express technical matters adequately, both orally and in writing and use MS word, PP, Excel. A self-starter is required, someone who is seeking development within the team. The role-holder will work closely with the rest of the design team as well as within a wider multi-functional R&D team in order to:

  • Develop R&D’s next-generation industrial ink-jet printing products.
  • Improve the quality and reliability of new product launches through collaboration to investigate any issues and resolve but also find opportunities in a proactive manner.
  • Increase the overall efficiency of the team, working in a fast-paced development environment, reducing time-to-market.
  • Be prepared to travel for a short period, (2 weeks max), to other Videojet sites globally such as China and the US which may sometimes be required in the long term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gain and maintain familiarity with the portfolio of existing and forthcoming products.
  • Actively participate in concept generation of new products.
  • Support in 3D modelling of concepts and large assemblies.
  • Generate 2D detail drawings, including Bill of Materials for Devt. and product launches.
  • Hands-on work, including inspection of parts and assembly / testing, and produce technical reports.
  • Participate in problem solving (using theory and practical means)
  • Basic theoretical analysis of designs as and when needed.
  • Participate, and provide support during technical reviews, feasibility studies and project-reviews as appropriate.
  • Assist in quality improvement (and/or VAVE) of current products and update design/drawings.

Key Requirements

  • Min of 1 year of experience in workplace (preferable).
  • Understanding of Basic Engineering principles and good theoretical knowledge of engineering subjects
  • Basic understanding of Computer Aided Design 3D and 2D
  • Hardworking, a team-player in a pressured but highly productive environment with ability to help/work on multiple projects.
  • Ability to do hands on assembly and test work related to design verification with good problem solving capabilities.
  • Some basic knowledge of reliability and an understanding of how they apply to the design and development process.
  • Ability to learn fast and develop within the Engineering team with guidance and mentoring from the senior members.
  • Good interpersonal skills, both written and verbal including the ability to disseminate ideas and information in an open, crisp and precise manner to peers and management.
