Danaher`s Water Quality Business is a global leader in water quality analysis and treatment, providing instrumentation and disinfection systems to help analyze and manage the quality of ultra-pure water, portable water, wastewater, groundwater and ocean water in residential, commercial, industrial, and natural resource applications. Our water quality business provides products under a variety of brands, including HACH, ChemTreat, and Trojan Technologies.


Responsible for the implementation of new product development efforts within the Business Unit.  Coordinates the cross functional New Product Development (NPD) team members’ activities to meet the prescribed design requirements, schedule, and production readiness as established by the Business Unit and the NPD team itself.  Works as a member of the Business Unit management team to develop strategic plans that define the direction of the Business Unit’s new product development activity.  Serves as the communication link between, and provides support for Business Unit, Operations, Marketing, Sales and Service management. Assumes responsibility and accountability for meeting product development requirements, fulfilling product definition, meeting product and project cost goals, quality, and time-to-market objectives.

  • Identifies and evaluates new trends impacting the Business Unit by leveraging the sales and service organization, participation on leading edge conferences defining future demands on instrumentation, key customer visits / fairs and VOC collection/interpretation processes.
  • Develops and implements strategic activities to improve the new product development process within the Business Unit. Includes addition of application expertise, specific and regional market needs to New Product Development teams. 
  • Identifies, develops and maintains programs within the Business Unit that lead to product conception, definition, design, and release to manufacturing.
  • Develops, maintains, and executes detailed project schedules and budgets including obtaining and assigning human and financial/capital resource requirements to ensure successful NPD projects; may develop and maintain annual operating and capital budgets. 
  • Maintains existing products through allocating design and engineering time when needed to meet customer expectations.  Coordinates these efforts with the Product Managers, Product Innovation and Applications Managers, Applications Scientists as well as Manufacturing and Sustaining Engineering.
  • Is responsible either directly, or indirectly of project management requirements for each project within the Business Unit, including platform and derivative projects.  This includes, but is not limited to: meeting facilitation; project scheduling; design review meeting facilitation; status, test report and other documentation recording, maintenance and /distribution; project history file maintenance. 
  • Maintains and improves the Hach Quality System requirements, including the NPD guide; ensures adherence to quality system requirements in the development of new products.
  • Provides sales & application tools (Applicator/Configurator) and defines product/application focus considering product profitability
  • Provides competitor’s strategy evaluation in vertical market space
  • Helps drive BU sales growth by developing and managing effective relationships with third parties, included, but not limited to: OEM resellers, technology providers, industry/opinion leaders, equipment providers, and governmental/regulatory bodies.  
  • Actively participates in, and/or facilitates, design reviews, NPD phase change reviews and product oversight teams for projects and product lines inside of, and external to the Business Unit. 
  • Actively participate on the product oversight teams for the product lines within the scope of the Business Unit.
  • Support the sales organization by visiting key customers and providing representation as key experts for applications and product technology.
  • Publishes technical reports, contributes to important workshops/congresses, drives membership in standardization organization
  • Performs other duties as required.

Job Requirements


  • BS or BA in Engineering or the Sciences required
  • MS, MA, or MBA in business, marketing, engineering, or technology management preferred
  • Broad understanding of Hach products and processes, including design, manufacturing, and market use of products.  
  • Knowledge of administrative systems.
  • Working knowledge of phase-gate new product development processes.
  • Knowledge of effective team building approaches, and team dynamics.
  • Knowledge and use of personal computers, and common business productivity tools such as word processors, spreadsheets, databases, project scheduling tools, etc.
  • Understanding of the project management body of knowledge
  • Four or more years in a product development, engineering, or manufacturing environment, with at least two years of close involvement with product development or project management.
  • Ability to present complex or difficult messages clearly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly acquire new knowledge and skills as required
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and manage many tasks/projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to utilize commonly accepted project management tools to assist in the development of, and adherence to a project schedule.
  • Demonstrated ability in analytical thinking.
