Description

Pall Corporation of Westborough is seeking a Principal Scientist, Downstream Process Development. Pall’s Process Development Services group provides our customers with best in class, innovative solutions for their downstream processing needs. 

You will be a subject matter expert (SME) on manufacturing downstream processes for gene therapy and biologic applications working with new game changing technologies as well as provide scientific leadership to a small team of purification scientists reporting to the PDS lab Senior Manager. Responsibilities include: 
  • Mentoring, executing, developing, providing guidance and managing workloads for the associates and being part of the hands on purification team. 
  • Lead planning and execution of experiments for Pall downstream process development services including, depth filtration, chromatography I, polish chromatography TFF testing, sterile filtration, AKTA systems, or other DSP automation systems
  • Prepare project reports, by combining all data from a specific project from multiple individuals and making recommendations to clients on the direction of the project
  • Close interaction with the customer, presenting rational behind the experiment plan and experimental results
  • Prepare detailed protocols for execution for practical work and batch manufacturing records for process transfer to GMP manufacturing
  • Assist the project manager with administrative functions – preparation of report drafts, budget tracking, draft proposals, BoM
  • Plan and execute experiments for DSP, experience with process development and scale-up of DSP unit-operations
  • Troubleshoot customer data, look for efficiencies and recommend right products and equipment to achieve best results
  • Train and support DSP activities in Portsmouth, UK PDS Lab
  • Perform analytical assays, possibly including gels, ELISA, qPCR, SDS-Page
  • Analyze project results and summarize for discussion with team. Make recommendations for further optimization

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Bachelors in biological science / chemical engineering & minimum of 7+ years of experience in protein purification or MS in biology / chemical engineering & 5+ years of experience in protein purification or a PhD with 3+ industrial relevant purification experience 
  • Experience with purification with chromatography strength of viral particles (gene therapy and/or vaccine fields) or Monoclonal antibodies
  • Small scale purification development as well as large scale experience
  • A good understanding of product purification mechanisms
  • Prior experience compiling information into technical reports
  • Supervisory experience including performance management and development of employees
  • Ability to travel as needed.
