Description

Summary: Following doctors Prescription (Rx) and Technical Standing Instructions (TSI), fabricates orthodontic metal appliances to fit plaster or digitally printed model.  Is familiar with a variety of the department’s appliances names, concepts, variations, build practices, and procedures. Relies on experience to fabricate appliance to order.  Herbst, Mara, and other fixed metal appliances. Some degree of creativity is expected.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following: (Other duties may be assigned)
  • Evaluate Rx and/or TSI for completeness and/or conflicting information, models (digital and plaster) for distortion/broken teeth/accuracy/proper ID, and placement date. Reports errors or discrepancies to line or department lead.
  • Using a variety of manual and powered hand tools, bends, shapes, grinds, and cuts wire to accurately fit model.  May also be required to solder/spot weld. A plus if multi-disciplined in variety of metals appliances such as Herbst, Mara, and/or other fixed metal appliances. 
  • Ensures that all Quality Processes and Controls are followed including Manufacturing Assembly Procedures, Technical Standing Instructions, on-time completion of required trainings, use of good documentation practices in recordkeeping, and Quality System Work Instructions.
  • Maintains awareness of personal productivity to ensure daily production goals are met.  Documents downtime including training, meetings, etc…
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance as required by department Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Occasionally participates in Daily Department Gemba meetings.
  • Adhere to scheduled trainings for ISO/FDA compliance as required. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe workstation and adhere to all Health and Safety policies.  Report all safety violations or injuries promptly to line lead, department lead, Operations Manager, or Safety Manager.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent; or three to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Experience in multiple disciplines of metals appliance fabrication a plus (plaster duplicating, wire bending, spot welding, soldering, hydro-flux welding, finishing/polishing).
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as Rx, TSI’s, safety rules, training documents, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to communicate effectively with groups of employees within the organization. Ability to perform these functions in English.
  • Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide standard units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
 
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Computer Skills: No computer skills necessary
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory skills required

  • This position has a variety of repetitive motions and requires manual dexterity of arms, wrists, and hands.  Position frequently utilizes various pliers, powered hand tools, cutters, and bench tools. 
  • This position has a sit/stand option for fabricating wire appliances.  Inform supervisor of choice.
  • Good close up vision is required; magnification and additional lighting is available.
  • May be required to occasionally lift up to 10 pounds off workstation or shelves.
  • May occasionally walk through department to other workstations.
