Description


BASIC FUNCTION:


A Design Engineer, to join a small team of Mechanical Engineers and actively participate in the hardware design of inkjet printers Videojet develops regularly.


With high preference of background in ink jet industry, the role is to provide detail designs and technical solutions from concept to final products, using CAD (Solidworks) modelling, Assembly with BoM, and 2D drawing.


Primary location is in the UK R&D facility in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire; but travel to other VideoJet sites globally such as China and the US may sometimes be required.



MAIN DUTIES:


1. System-level and detailed design of complex mechanical, electromechanical and system for ink jet industrial printers.


2. 3D component design using Solid Works CAD package including surface modelling; and 2D detail drawing for manufacturing and production.


3. Hardware design for manufacturing at a low cost of manufacturing target and high quality of ease of manufacture; (including plastic and rubber parts)


4. Design for assembly with cost target and quality/yield in mind.


5. Ensure that the products are developed to be safe and reliable.


6. Conduct, document and analyze laboratory tests and track data pertaining to verification of designed components / systems.


7. Participate, and where necessary be responsible for, technical reviews, feasibility studies and project reviews as appropriate, and to provide/direct technical support for other departments, if required.


8. Participate as a member of the Group and carry out any functions that are necessary in support of the Mechanical group Manager, (actively supporting the design activity of junior Engineers and contractors to ensure that information is accurate and timely.

Qualifications


MAIN REQUIREMENTS:


1. Mechanical/Product Design Engineering (Degree or HNC level in Engineering)


2. Minimum of 5 years of experience (preferable in ink jet printer design).


3. Experience in design for precision Injection moulding; (plastic, metal, rubber).


4. Understanding of DFM and DFA.


5. Proficient in the use of Solid Works CAD software, (minimum of 2 years in Solidworks)


6. Proven teamwork within multi-functional project teams.


7. Proven ability to concurrently work on multiple project teams.


8. Ability to do hands on assembly and test work related to own design’s verification


9. Strong problem solving capabilities.


10. Knowledge of quality and reliability and an understanding of how they apply to the design and development process.


11. Ability to express technical matters adequately, both orally and in writing.


12. Ability to develop prototypes from engineering specifications
