Sciex is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to be part of Research and Development (R&D). Reporting to the Senior Hardware Development Manager, this position works cross-functionally from new design concept to manufacturing.  The ideal candidate will be an
outstanding technical leader, demonstrate innovative designs, work with
vendors, and help drive technical projects from concept to completion. This position requires passion for engineering and dedication to getting the job done. 

Essential Functions

  • Product design for the Liquid Chromatography and Capillary
    Electrophoresis Markets.
  • Work with the R&D
    team to develop innovative products.
  • CAD design of parts/components for products that are used worldwide.
  • Collaborate with application
    associates to develop new features and applications of products.
  • Lead the design and delivery of new
    products and technology into Manufacturing.
  • Identify and evaluate new vendors, manage relationships, and generate specifications for outsourced design.
  • Assemble, debug, and test prototype mechanical assemblies.
  • Support existing
    products in the field through Product Support and Manufacturing.

Job Requirements


  • Minimum of Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 8 years' relevant experience with typically 10 years' or greater, of practical experience.
  • Desired knowledge of Life
    Science and liquid handling systems.
  • Expertise in mechanical
    design: machined, sheet metal, molded, cast parts.
  • Experience using PTC CAD
    systems (CREO, Co-Create), SolidWorks or similar CAD packages. 
  • Demonstrated experience
    using tolerance stack-up analysis to drive high precision design.
  • Solid knowledge in
    material science and material properties.
  • Experience in large and
    miniature part design and fabrication.
  • Understanding and
    experience in Mechatronics and/or motion control systems.
  • Design for manufacturing:  Ease of
    assembly, Cost of Goods, second sourcing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application
    of Manufacturing tooling support.
  • Understanding of Product Development
    Life Cycles and Manufacturing principles.

  • Initiator of innovative design and development
  • Fast turnaround of manufacturing
    support for designs and test jigs.
  • Experience with technical writing and documentation
  • Understanding how to relate design
    elements to system level specifications and performance.
  • Demonstrated history of driving
    projects to completion in schedule driven environments.
  • Demonstrated history of creativity,
    innovation, and outside-the-box thinking.
  • Ability to be persuasive and sell ideas
    to others.
  • Methodical troubleshooting and
    debugging capabilities.
  • Good communication skills, written and
  • Experience with application of design
    controls throughout development process.
  • Ability to manage time between multiple
    tasks while working independently as well as, within a team
  • Must work in a multi-disciplined
    environment (EEs, MEs, Chemists, Scientists, SW, FW, QA, and Compliance).
  • Must work with Operations people
    located throughout the world (NPI, Manufacturing, Sales, and Product Support).
  • Must work with Research groups to
    convert new technology to product.
  • Provide technical guidance on field
  • Participate in Peer Design Reviews.
