Position Summary and Overview
The Leica Biosystems Imaging business is excited to be growing our R&D capability in our Vista, CA office, just outside of San Diego! On our journey to Vision 24, enabling clinicians to efficiently provide patients a highly confident diagnosis within 24-hours from biopsy, the LBS Imaging business plays a critical part in the scanning, image management and image analysis parts of the overall integrated solutions we offer.
This position is a member of the Engineering leadership team led by the Director, R&D. In the Manager, Systems Verification & Validation (V&V) role, you will lead a team of quality and reliability engineers (software, hardware and systems) who oversee verification and validation activity across multiple projects for Aperio product line in image acquisition, management, viewing and analysis products. You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge of Agile/Scrum and reliability practices to ensure high-level quality in the products. Moreover, you will oversee product defect track and trend post release collaborating with R&D Team for definition and initialization of reliability improvement projects.
A key part of the role will also be effective communication with other partners locally and with the Test and Development team in our India Development Center (IDC) to satisfy delivery objectives and priorities associated with ongoing product maintenance and new product development projects.
 
Major Responsibilities
  • Line management of systems test (SW and HW) and reliability engineers, including team coordination with developing team.
  • Communicate progress and issues to senior management.
  • Responsible for ensuring specifications in Quality Management System (QMS) are followed and those specifications are applicable to product function.
  • Review Requirements and Design documents for assigned Projects.
  • Lead Test and Reliability team in approaches and improvements to drive quality through the full development product lifecycle.
  • Advocate the use of DBS tools such as Daily Management, Problem Solving, Standard Work, PRTI and others as appropriate to the needs of the business.
  • Develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of all LBS products.
  • Establish development plan for the team members. Mentor individuals to accomplish their career goals as well as project objectives.
  • Establish department processes and DOPs working closely with the Director of Systems Engineering.
  • Ensure QSM processes are adhered to throughout the product development cycle
  • Establish cross departmental product defect trend/track and triage meetings to drive continuous quality improvement
  • Establish work standards and processes for effective distribution of work and roles/responsibilities between LBS Vista site and LBS offshore team in India

Qualifications

  • Required Skills/Experience
    • A minimum of seven (7)  years of experience in Systems (Software and Hardware) Test and/or Development including the application of test processes throughout product lifecycle development
    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering  (Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent industry experience
    • Proven experience in leading a team with demonstrated ability to manage team through influence and leadership skills.
    • Experience in defect tracking and system reliability improvement
    • Experience in Agile development processes and methodologies.
    • Experience in testing automated electro-mechanical and optical instruments
    • Experience with ALM/test case management software such as Quality Center or SpiraTeam.
    • Experience with test bed management software such as VMWARE, Acronis, or Ghost
    • Experience in use of test automation tools e.g. Selenium, Test Complete
    • This position is located in Vista, California and will require up to 10% travel
     
    Desired Skills/Experience
    • Expertise and experience in Brightfield and/or Fluorescence Digital Imaging or other medical imaging modalities
    • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead product testing within regulated medical product development environment (FDA, ISO).
    • Experience in motion control, camera interface and communication protocols is a plus
    • Experience in white or grey box testing.
    • Experience working in globally distributed test teams
    • Expertise in managing development and/or testing of firmware, algorithms, hardware and software applications for high precision automated vision systems
