We are seeking a dynamic engineering leader to join our team. Reporting to the Director of R&D, the ME Manager will play a key leadership role in the hardware engineering team providing strategic and tactical direction. The ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with experience in IVD systems with hardware/ software/ reagent components, and who has brought new products to market. As the mechanical engineering leader, they will set the future vision for the group. As a working manager, they will be responsible for engineering tasks which could include design, analysis, or systems engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead mechanical engineering team to define, develop, and execute on system design deliverables
  • Manage mechanical engineering team to achieve desired level of system and technology knowledge through creating and maintaining a module-based SME list
  • Working with Program Managers, the ME Manager will support NPD objectives for all mechanical engineering deliverables (skins, fluidics, motion, etc)
  • Stay up-to-date on developments in mechanical engineering and instrument design
  • Remain current in best practices for DBS: Agile HW development, SDR, VPM, and others
  • Participate in planning / staffing / scheduling / coordinating / technical reviews on various projects
  • Provide mentoring and guidance (both technical and IDP-related) to other mechanical engineers
  • Formalize staff training policies and programs to develop a world class mechanical engineering team
  • Champion and facilitate the mechanical engineering teams’ use of FMEA to drive world class reliability on next generation of products

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Systems Engineering (or equivalent) with 9+ years of experience, OR Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience OR Doctoral degree with 4+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level
  • Experience with mechanical design in hardware/ software/ reagent systems
  • Experience in the use of Design FMEA as a tool in the design process
  • Experience with failure analysis tools to successfully identify root cause
  • Technical ability to understand architecture, system interactions and interfaces of a complex Hematology system (reagents, hardware, and software) to drive effective use of reliability engineering tools
  • Self-starter with a sense of urgency to resolve issues and complete tasks
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, and often ambiguous environment where continuous improvement is a way of life
Preferred but not essential:
  • Prior working experience in a regulated environment
  • Prior working experience with requirements of ISO 14971, Application of Risk Management to Medical Devices
  • Prior experience in developing urinalysis, hematology, clinical chemistry, immunoassay, and other IVD instrumentation
