This role has responsibility for leading the HR Function of the Advanced Staining Reagents Business Unit at Leica Biosystems by providing direction, support, and guidance to the Site Lead and Senior Management Team as well as ensuring effective and timely HR operational support is provided to all line managers and associates.

This role has HR site responsibilities for Newcastle UK predominately (>200 associates), provides strategic oversite for Amsterdam (~20 associates), Inclusive of direct management of an HR Generalist and strategic partnership with the HR Manager in Amsterdam, the incumbent has the opportunity to drive strategies and actions in support of talent acquisition, engagement and retention to ensure business needs and strategic plans are achieved in line with business goals.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Responsibility for key talent management and development including:
    • collaboration with departmental heads to ensure solid plans are in place to drive sustained team development through competency assessment and development of associates
    • ensuring Talent Succession Funnels are built and nurtured to support future business growth
    • development and sustainment of robust process to manage all aspects of Talent Management in support of companywide strategies and future business talent needs
  • Best practice Talent Acquisition activities to ensure:
    • the timely placement of qualified and diverse associates
    • the building and maintenance of candidate funnels for key business areas
    • strategy in place to support the management of key critical roles through both internal progression opportunities and cultivation of external networks in partnership with the local corporate recruiting function
  • Development and dissemination of best practice programs, policies, and procedures regarding key HR metrics (talent acquisition, associate engagement, performance management, talent management, retention, compensation, diversity and inclusion etc.)
  • Ensure HR systems are in place, effective and fit for purpose of use in supporting the daily activities at the Newcastle site and in support of the Amsterdam site
  • Member of the Site Management Team with shared responsibilities to promote and contribute to the development of site plans, governance processes and communication to meet business objectives. 
  • Provision of leadership in the development of a sustainable high performance / high commitment workforce.
  • Driving change management to support achievement of business goals.
  • Coaching leaders through implementation and support of our talent management tools and leadership development programs to develop high performing teams.
  • To provide professional advice to managers and associates where required and in compliance with company procedure and employment-related laws. 
  • Seeks ways to advance processes for effective workflow and sustainable, measurable improvements utilizing the Danaher Business System.
  • Provide so far as is reasonably practicable a healthy and safe workplace for employees, contractors and visitors through working with EHS Manager to implement policies, procedures and support improvements ensuring that the business complies with all relevant EHS regulations 

Job Requirements


Required Skills/Experience:

  • Solid and demonstrable experience of leading the HR function within a fast-paced, regulated environment.


  • Effective communicator in a variety of settings from one on one to large groups, utilizing attentive listening skills and adjusting the message to fit with the audience
  • Balances needs of stakeholders to identify, build, and deliver upon opportunities while considering cultural and ethical factors in making fair decisions
  • Utilizes critical thinking to ask the right questions, analyse situations with information from diverse sources to uncover root causes and evaluate the risks and benefits of solutions
  • Sound decision making utilizing a mixture of analysis, experience, and knowledge from self and other people resources to consider relevant factors and make a principled decision
  • Has strong orientation to accomplishing objectives in a measurable and sustainable way, recognizing obstacles while leveraging resources to overcome these, helping self and others to achieve results. 
  • Has the managerial courage to provide direct and actionable feedback, support others in facing difficult situations/decisions while willing to do the same, and champion potentially unpopular ideas based on sound judgement.
  • Plans, aligns, and executes strategies and objectives around talent development to meet growth requirements of the business.

Education List of Education, Certifications, Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • A specific Human Resources Qualification / Membership (CIPD) preferred but not essential

Travel  % of Travel, include approximate overnight stays per week:

  • The need to travel will be moderate within this role (<20%)
