Description

You will manage a scientific team and resources, including staffing and performance, and will play a significant role in helping to define the future scientific, research, business directions and needs for the organization. Ideally you will have a proven history of directing and leading scientists in research activities and conducting independent research.


Job Responsibilities

  • Manage the Hardware (HW) research scientists. Prioritize work based on business needs, skill set match and resource loading; guides and trains as required. Responsible for performance reviews and career development.
  • Works with HW Engineering Management to ensure appropriate engineering resources are assigned as well as coordinating resources to work together in early phase research and capability development.
  • Works individually and with the research technical leadership to identify new hardware requirements and related areas of research, initiates studies, generates reports, presentations and publications. Due to the research nature of the work, the level of definition will vary; creativity and innovation are required, expected and encouraged.
  • Provides estimates of schedule, tools and equipment required for research, design and testing activities and ensures that they are requisitioned in a timely fashion.
  • Acts as a technical leader and expert resource for other departments; Marketing, Product Development, Project Management, and Manufacturing to achieve company strategy and research goals.
  • Carries out evaluation of both internal and external business opportunities from a hardware technology perspective.
  • Represents the company at international conferences meetings and supports marketing efforts as necessary.
  • Establishes and maintains a network of collaborators to ensure that the most important and relevant problems are addressed and that the latest techniques are available.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Chemistry, Engineering or a related field and 8+  years of additional experience
  • Experience in designing, developing, and testing hardware
  • Proven track record in creatively solving problems 
  • Excellent communication skills, able to work well with customers and other staff, and able to coach and guide others

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience leading teams is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of mass spectrometry hardware and applications
