The Application Development team at Leica Microsystems Cambridge designs and builds complex web applications to support our exciting portfolio of Microscopy products for a global customer base.  Due to recent project successes we are looking to expand our team with a Graduate or Junior Software Developer for Web Applications. 
You will work within a close-knit team of developers, architects, and product stakeholders to design and build  high-quality enterprise web applications.  You will demonstrate a passion for excellence in software engineering and user experience.  You will be comfortable with the foundations of front and back end web development and embrace the opportunity to deepen your skills across our technology stack. You will appreciate technical freedom and flexibility in an Agile Kanban environment with a DevOps CI/CD culture.  Occasional travel maybe required to interact with our global stakeholders and extended teams.
The position will be closely mentored by the team, but you will be expected to work under own initiative. You will enjoy engaging with our global user base and relish the challenge of interpreting loose specifications into robust software solutions.

Job Requirements


Essential Education and Experience:
Minimum 2.1 degree ideally in Computer Science or related discipline
Experience of a major software development project or significant undergraduate team project or open source contribution
Experience and knowledge of object-oriented design and programming in Java
Experience and knowledge of front end web development with HTML5/CSS/JS
Awareness of relational databases
Excellent English language skills
Desirable Experience though not essential, in any of the following areas:
AngularJS or equivalent Single Page Application (SPA) JavaScript framework
Spring Framework – Core/MVC/Security
Hibernate/JPA or other persistence layer framework
Responsive web design with Bootstrap 3
Test-Driven Development (TDD) with Junit and Mockito
GIT Source Control Management
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Eclipse IDE
