The Global Category Manager will have direct responsibility for managing a category of direct material purchases that span ChemTreat’s business.  The Global Category Manager will ensure best cost positions in the category, develop relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, and will be an expert in the market for the items in that category. Managerial experience to coach and develop skills and capabilities of the emerging talent.  Person in the role must have the interpersonal skills and organizational agility to influence others and operate across functional boundaries, to develop networks, an entrepreneurial spirit, a results orientation and strong problem-solving skills with experience in conflict resolution. 


  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies to ensure global supplier quality, delivery, cost, lead time, inventory, cost performance, and risk mitigation goals are met

  • Manage approx.$50 million dollars annual spend. Lead negotiations with suppliers to achieve identified sourcing strategies

  • Execute on projects that will achieve year over year price savings within the managed category

  • Develop an overall supplier base which creates and sustains a competitive advantage, utilizing global market exploitation, leveraging spending and technologies

  • Develop and deliver clear category management plans that will include but are not limited to:

- Evaluating existing supply relationships, volume allocations and spend.

- Set goals and objectives based upon annual requirements and business objectives.

- Review with impacted business leaders for alignment.

  • Lead the analysis of relevant markets and provide insight from that analysis to internal and external customers

  • Conduct commodity specific competitor and industry analysis to identify cost, material selection, manufacturing techniques and materials sourcing to improve the company’s competitive position

  • Work in collaboration with R&D, QA/QC, manufacturing, supply chain to qualify new sources of supply and to seek value engineering opportunities to lower total cost of products

  • Play an active role in resolving critical quality and delivery issues with suppliers; comprehensive ownership of supplier performance.

  • Stay informed of changing environmental, social responsibility and diversity standards, regulations, and laws. 

  • Works closely with Regional Procurement organization to ensure implementation of sourcing strategies and to develop skills and capabilities of the emerging talent

  • Embrace the Danaher Business System (DBS), and promote a continuous improvement culture to support business growth.

  • Anticipate market evolution’s and design appropriate sourcing strategies to address changes

  • Deliver supplier and contract related communication to internal stakeholders

  • Monitor ongoing benefits tracking and compliance assessments to achieve optimal value and cost-savings. 


  • Coordinates with demand planners to improve inventory turnover

  • Involvement in the local leadership of the business operations

  • Mentoring analysts to develop a funnel of future category managers

Job Requirements


  • Bachelors degree required, preferably in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance
  • 7+ years of strategic sourcing or category management experience, preferably in Chemical industries
  • Previous employment with multinational companies or overseas experience in chemical or related industries, preferred
  • 3+ years of managerial experience
  • Global sourcing experience preferred
  • MBA preferred
  • Proven leadership skills in influential leadership situations
  • Proficiency in English; fluency in Spanish or Portuguese preferred
  • Negotiations acumen
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in business case development, cost modeling and other financial decision approaches
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects across categories, commodities, suppliers and business functions
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and directional changes
  • Clear, concise communicator, able to translate complex messages into commonly understood terms
  • Strong consultative, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to develop and establish solid and trustworthy relationships
  • Ability to manage relationships with stakeholders and within corporate procurement
