Description

We are seeking a candidate to fill the position of Experienced Production Technician for Beckman Coulter’s antisera production goat ranch in southeast Riverside County/Temecula-Menifee CA.  If you are self motivated, have a “can-do” attitude and desire to work in an environment that is very physical, fast-paced, focused and personally rewarding, this job is for you.  The nature of the work is unique and is split between indoor and outdoor activities regardless of weather conditions. The candidate must enjoy being around and working with large livestock, specifically adult goats.
Duties related to laboratory work and care of the goat herd include, but are not limited to: 
  • Herding goats to/from outdoor pens and to/from the laboratory facility
  • Loading goats onto stanchions 
  • Performing phlebotomy (drawing blood) and plasmaphoresis (process to separate plasma from the blood cells and return blood cells back into the goat) 
  • manually securing (holding) goats while medication application, hoof trimming, and any other needed emergency care is administered
  • Assisting with intra-dermal inoculations (boosting) of goats 
  • Loading hay bales (approximately 100 pounds each) onto feeding carts and distributing by hand to all livestock pens
  • Monitoring animals for abnormal behavior and elevating possible issues to the supervisor. 
  • Other ranch upkeep duties include, but are not limited to: Repairing fences, including hot wire barrier fences; Cleaning and maintaining pens and shelters. 
  • Take direction from the Ranch Supervisor and Lead and cooperate with coworkers
  • Focus on critical tasks
  • Pay attention to details (animals, equipment, facilities)
  • Have high work standards
  • Follow written and verbal instructions
  • Demonstrate safe work  practices. 
  • It is important to note that this position works within a regulated environment (e.g., USDA, FDA, ISO, etc), so the ability to understand and adhere to written procedures (laboratory, goat care, safety, etc) is required.  
  • The candidate is expected to learn the basic job requirements in a short period of time and through experience and training, take on more responsibility over time. 
  • The candidate must be capable of working with and around animal blood, assisting with basic animal health care, and attending to the immediate needs of sick or injured animals. 
  • The candidate must be able to adjust work hours depending on the season, and work most holidays that fall in the Monday through Friday work week as well as some weekend work. 

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience working with large animal livestock is highly preferred
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools for maintenance activities is preferred
  • Experience with operation of small farm equipment and vehicles is a plus
  • A degree, certification or related course-work in agriculture and/or livestock husbandry is desirable; A degree, certification or related course-work in veterinarian related field (e.g., veterinary technician) is a plus.
