Description

Position overview:

Using Danaher Business System (DBS) tools, establishes, implements, coordinates, and provides technical support for the implementation of all Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs to minimize potential risks associated with manufacturing activities. Focuses on finding opportunities to reduce environmental, safety and health liabilities while providing leadership in the development of responsible programs that represent our culture. Plans and coordinates training and awareness programs in environmental and safety prevention and protection, and other regulatory issues. Completes required regulatory requirements through reports to federal, state, and local agencies.



Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Knowledge OSHA, PROSHO, ADA, EPA, EQB, PRASA and DNR regulations
  • Good knowledge of DBS Tools (PSP, Kaizen, Lean, 5S, etc.).
  • Knowledge of RCRA, CAA, CWA and NPDES environmental regulations.
  • Observe, monitor and analyze existing operating procedures to resolve compliance to standards.
  • Effective training and program management principles.
  • Good administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal, written and analytical skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
  • Computer-literate
  • Fully Bilingual (English and Spanish).


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  1. Leads and develops environmental, safety and health programs by ensuring a safe environment consistent with regulatory, requirements and needs.
  2. Makes recommendations concerning compliance with all applicable regulations
  3. Develops and implements Problem Solving Process (PSP) and other DBS initiatives for EHS Department and activities.
  4. Directs the Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO-14001Program implementation.
  5. Directs the Business Continuity Management System (BCMS), including information updates and trainings.
  6. Plans all EHS related training by educating workers about safety and environmental policies, laws, and practices.
  7. Leads all Contingency Plans for all EHS requirements.
  8. Assures Environmental permit(s) compliance. Maintains all necessary documentation, track sampling, monitoring program and reporting requirements
  9. Prepares and submits all required reporting to regulatory agencies.
  10. Develops and actively pursues an accident/incident prevention program to insure that appropriate policies and procedures are followed.
  11. Identifies and appraises conditions which could produce accidents and financial losses by evaluating potential extent of injuries resulting from accidents
  12. Develops inspection program to reveal unsafe work practices and conditions, with recommendations for corrective measures being brought to the attention of the responsible person.
  13. Plans monitoring and industrial hygiene studies by identifying hazards and exposure levels and develop control measures.
  14. Leads all aspects of the Site’s Recycling and Waste Minimization Programs always looking for new areas of opportunity.
  15. Leads Site’s Security Program and supervises all contract Security Guards.
  16. Develops and implements security policies and procedures to prevent security risks to employees and guests, larceny, threats, damage to Company property or other conduct in violation to Company’s rules and regulations
  17. Periodically audits all facilities and environmental programs to assure compliance and continuous improvement.
  18. Provides technical and regulatory support to all projects and ensure compliance with applicable Environmental, Health and Safety rules and regulations.
  19. Compiles, analyzes and interprets statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents, environmental costs and releases by preparing reports for information of personnel concerned.
  20. Leads all aspects of the training record database for all EHS training.
  21. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices; participating in professional societies.
  22. Chips in to team effort by accomplishing related results; keeping business information confidential; coordinating the system security; ensuring data accuracy and integrity; maintaining updated professional and technical knowledge; assuring systems compliance with laws, regulations, and corporate standards; ensuring a safe and healthy environment.
  23. Follows QRS, ISO and all applicable regulations and company procedures.
  24. Ensures that all personnel in all areas are aware of the importance of Environmental Policy and EMS (Environmental Management System) requirements, their roles and responsibilities and the potential impacts of their work.
  25. Sees opportunities and proposes ideas for minimize or eliminate environmental aspects or impacts and participate in the definition of environmental objectives and targets.
  26. Identify qualified EHS contractors, submit necessary scopes for department needs, and get bids, for auditors, trainings, consultants. Get approvals for necessary purchase requisition, and ensure payments.
  27. Support the EHS Team Monthly meetings to address most important issues to be covered in the meetings that ensure the improvements in the unsafe/ act conditions and different departments, ensure attendance and provide trainings.
  28. Participates in planning, and capital and operating budget setting activities
  29. Uses Danaher Business Systems methods to embed EHS standard methodologies into daily management.
  30. Leads all Opco, Danaher and external EHS audits of Pall Life Sciences Puerto Rico (e.g. FM Global), develop action plans to resolve findings, and implement countermeasures promptly and effectively.
  31. Acts as mentor to associates with EHS responsibilities at Pall Life Sciences’ (PLS) facilities, evaluates performance and provides input to performance appraisals and skills development plans for these associates.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in Environmental, Health and Safety Management Programs, in a managerial role


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree desirable
