Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:
In addition to their normal job responsibilities, the EH&S Coordinator will be responsible for responding to incidents that impact Phenomenex employees and facilities during emergency situations, such as fire, chemical spill, power outage and earth quake. The EH&S Coordinator proactively identify safety issues and unsafe behaviors to Management. They conduct inspections, participate in monthly Team Meetings, maintain their safety related certifications and actively participate in drills.

The EH&S Coordinator assists in the creation of a culture of safety and environmental protection by performing work safely in accordance with departmental safety procedures.  They are expected to set a good example, by operating equipment safely and reporting unsafe work conditions or practices to management.  They will most likely be exposed to hazards or hazardous materials requiring use of personal protective equipment to prevent exposure.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Make recommendations for the elimination or control of hazardous conditions and behaviors
2. Provide leadership in incident management, scene stabilization, and evacuation procedures
3. Conduct monthly safety inspection and actively participate in Monthly Team meetings
4. Attend and pass assigned training classes
5. Maintain a building/floor list of employees for roll call during evacuations
6. Respond to fires and other disasters, as appropriate
7. Provide First Aid and CPR to injured employees, before emergency agencies arrive
8. Coordinate and participate in chemical/biological spill cleanup, as necessary
9. Use hazard monitoring equipment, and analyze results to determine spill response.
10. Communicate with regulatory agencies, when appropriate
11. Perform other emergency related duties as assigned

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures and protocols.
  • Working knowledge of chemical hazards
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Completion of 24 hour HAZWOPER training or CPR and First Aid Training

OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION:

  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment including a respirator.
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test required.
  • Ability to pass a First Aid/CPR Class is required.
