Beckman Coulter’s WITS Business Unit offers a fast-paced environment that spans from the strategic vision of the company to the tactical aspects of a product development or product launch. The WITS Business Unit sits at the intersection of Healthcare and Automation placing it in a dynamic position to deliver differentiated solutions to customers. Automation is a highly strategic business for Beckman Coulter and requires vision setting, strategic focus, customer orientation and relentless execution to expand the portfolio and grow the business.

About the Position

The Director Product Marketing for Automation will be responsible for our current portfolio of Automation Solutions.  Specifically, Beckman Coulter offers customers a suite of automation solutions for better managing their workflow, revenue and clinical outcomes.  These solutions have a significant impact to Beckman Coulter as one of our key differentiators in the market and are deployed to over 50% of our customer sites.

Additionally, the Director Product Marketing will be responsible for defining, driving and bringing to market our future Automation Solutions both through Organic and Inorganic means.  From an Organic perspective, the Director Product Marketing will set the product direction and roadmap for solutions delivered by over 100 internal R&D associates.  From an Inorganic perspective, the Director Product Marketing will evaluate and execute acquisition and strategic partnerships in alignment with the Automation strategy they define. 

The Director Product Marketing has a unique internal and external role.  All product marketing roles require close collaboration with supporting groups such as R&D, Quality/ Regulatory, Service and Manufacturing.  The Director Product Marketing also works closely with our commercial organizations to maintain a good information flow between our customers and our design center. In addition the incumbent needs to align with all other Directors Product Marketing teams of other Business Units such as ChemIA, Hematology and Urinalysis as Automation increases the value of all of our products through close development and integration (if the solutions are not designed to work together, the customer benefit will be limited).  As such, close cooperation with the other Product Marketing organizations to lead the definition and execution of a cohesive and differentiated product portfolio strategy is a key element of success for this position.

The Director Product Marketing is responsible for overseeing the management of the product portfolio worldwide through a team of 6 direct reports. The role requires managing key processes for the development, launch, commercialization and life cycle management of Beckman Coulter’s Automation Solutions products. This includes execution throughout the product lifecycle, including gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, providing product positioning, training, sales tools, education, pricing strategies, stock, part numbers, and overseeing beta sites through launch. In the first 12 months it will be important to develop with the regional marketing leads reference sites for our new product line DxA and oversee the successful launch as key priorities.

  • Ability to work independently with external vendors to evolve existing buy / sell relationships into value added collaborations
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams without formal authority through influence and relationships
  • Ability to take complex technical concepts and translate the data into easy to understand and digestible information for global marketing and sales organizations
  • Independently identify and analyze the possible impact of competitive/3rd party products and make recommendations as needed
  • Make formal presentations and conduct group discussions on products for a broad range of scientific, technical and customer audiences including C-Suite Level.
  • Establish oneself as a resource to the organization as product & competitive expert
  • Drive/assist development of commercialization plans for existing products
  • Recruit, develop and lead a team of global product managers

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Must have a BS or BA degree, MBA preferred
  • Minimum of 14+ years relevant work experience with target of 10+ years in strategic marketing / product management experience in IT with experience in Healthcare Automation preferred
  • Ability to travel up to 50% - domestic and international travel
  • Experience with networking, database administration, and LIS connectivity a plus

Key deliverables in first 12 Months

  • Deliver and execute on launch excellence process of DxA in the various key markets and align with commercial organization on a proper positioning of our two connected automation lines.
  • Define and publish aligned cross-BU product portfolio roadmap leveraging consistent Automation capabilities to drive differentiation in the market
