Description

At Sea-Bird Scientific the Marketing Director plays a critical role on the Commercial leadership team with ownership of all marketing-driven demand generation campaigns including digital, print, and trade-show activities. This position leads a team of highly talented marketing associates to drive long-term commercial success in Sea-Bird Scientific’s core and emerging markets.

In addition to leading highly talented associates, the successful Marketing Director will lead the annual Marketing Planning process and ensure consistent cross-functional execution to growth bridge actions across Marketing and Sales to achieve strategic goals and revenue growth targets. This position is also expected to assume responsibility for cross-functional company and/or cross-Marketing initiatives and meetings.  This position reports to the Commercial Vice President.


Essential Functions

Provide leadership, deliver individual work product, and drive cross-functional alignment to deliver company objectives, including but not limited to:

Leadership

  • Build and develop a highly-engaged, high-performing, growth-oriented organization

  • Ensure the team is doing the right things (focusing on the critical few) and doing things right (leveraging DBS and best demonstrated practices)

  • Motivate associates to perform at their highest levels

  • Lead the development and execution of integrated campaign planning, build customer engagement to ensure that Sea-Bird Scientific is the preferred partner at all stages of a customer’s purchase process, and ultimately delivering increased revenue and share gain

  • Develop and build organizational capability around demand generation to become a best-in-class outbound marketing organization

  • Lead cross-organization alignment with the Water Quality Platform Digital Growth Team

Commercial Planning

  • Own development of annual marketing plans with specific tactics to deliver annual growth objectives, based on input solicited from and aligned with Commercial stakeholdersOwn development and delivery of global campaigns to drive customer awareness, resulting in marketing-qualified-leads (MQL) and sales-qualified-leads (SQL) to achieve growth targets

  • Own strategy development for the continued growth of the core business, market expansion, new product launches, competitive response, and new channel penetration

  • Continuous use and leverage of digital lead generation and eCommerce tools

  • Provide leadership in growth rooms and drive impactful problem solving to ensure marketing plans are executed and adjusted as needed to meet growth objectives

New Product Development and Growth Deliverables

  • Champions the NPD commercialization process to define demand creation and go-to-market strategies for new products and solutions, raising the standard with each successive product launch.

  • Own and deliver key NPD-driven documents and deliverables prior to and post product launch

  • Provide support to the senior team as required for strategic planning efforts

  • Acquisition: When necessary provide support in diligence activities and integration of acquired companies.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. MBA or other Marketing advanced degree desired
  • Demonstrated technical ability desirable including B.S. or B.A. in Physics, Engineering, Oceanography, or Optics. M.S. or Ph.D. in Oceanographic technical discipline highly desirable, or relevant work experience
  • 5+ years relevant experience in marketing, product development, product design, portfolio management, and product commercialization
  • 2+ years relevant experience managing teams desired.  Experience with multi-site teams desired
  • Product delivery and project management experience including milestone development activity management, team/stakeholder collaboration
  • Experience with marketing, development, or sales of oceanographic, water quality, or precision analytical measurement instrumentation desired
  • Proven ability to lead a functional team and work cross-functionally with other functional groups and to adapt to new situations
  • Demonstrated leadership and managerial skills, attracting top talent, developing high performers and holding people accountable for performance
  • Able to identify and prioritize the tasks necessary to meet long- and short-term objectives and effective time management and multi-tasking abilities to achieve these objectives
  • Strong organizational and planning or project management skills
  • In-depth analytical skills in gathering and interpreting data, formulating conclusions, and developing strategies and actionable conclusions based on analysis
  • Proven ability to work independently and proactively
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and continuous improvement mindset
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills

  • Physical requirements included: bend, sit, stand, kneel, crawl, turn/twist, and reach
  • Ability to see and hear well (either naturally or with correction) and speak clearly
