Description

Director, Global Government Relations and Public Policy


Plans, directs, and leads all public policy and government relations activities associated with Federal and State governments.  Develops, implements and leads a strategic approach to engage  leadership of Cepheid and other Danaher Operating Companies in public processes with the goal of identifying and prioritizing proactive legislative and regulatory initiatives that support key business objectives and drive business development opportunities; Develops appropriate policy positions with business leadership to ensure consistency of corporate messaging both internally and externally in coordination with various business operations. Engages government officials, thought leaders, and industry leaders on key issues, and develops appropriate content and deliverables as necessary including briefing materials, talking points, and leave behinds to translate the Company’s agenda into proactive, national, state, and country-specific policy strategy(ies). Monitors legislation; identifies and keeps senior management aware of key public policy activities and developments within Congress, the Administration and key agencies, as well as in the states, and key international countries. Advises and recommends how various issues should be prioritized and resolved in the context of the current political environment.  Engages other external stakeholders, such as clinician groups, laboratory groups, patient groups or other industry and business trade associations where necessary to advance the Company’s advocacy strategies.

Job Requirements



Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements



A bachelor's degree in political science, public affairs, public administration, communications or related field.



Experience & Other Requirements



Minimum of five years experience in government relations/government affairs. 


Knowledge of federal and state legislative and executive processes, and public affairs principles and practices is required.  Knowledge of biological systems, diagnostic testing, regulation and reimbursement of in vitro diagnostics or medical products is preferred.
