The Development Scientist 2 participates in the testing of new and existing product designs, processes, new product scale-up, design/product optimization, technology transfer process/product validation activities, and other testing/tasks related to support of fielded product.

This position will be responsible for participating in post market surveillance and development of microbial diagnostic assays.  The ideal candidate will also execute experimental designs to collect, organize and analyze data to support project milestones.  The position is in the Research and Development group which is responsible for reagent and assay development for Beckman Coulters’ Microbiology diagnostic platforms.

Essential Job Responsibilities:
Create documents including plans, protocols, requirements, or other project/process related documents for studies related to development of new products or assessment of existing products
Independently execute testing following approved plans/protocols/procedures
Analyze and document the results of testing in reports, design outputs, or other project/process related documents
Identify product, process, and project risks and participate in risk assessments
Efficient allocation and prioritization of time and resources to meet individual, team, and corporate goals

Job Requirements


The ideal candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related science preferably with an emphasis in microbiology. Success in this position will require:
Create experimental designs, plans, protocols, and procedures with review.
Independently execute protocols and procedures
Contribute to technical reports
Author and collaborate on requirements
Participate in risk assessment for products, processes, and projects
Demonstrated ability to summarize, analyze and convey complex information clearly
Able to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary team-based environment of scientists and engineers.
Take initiative within assigned responsibility level in relation to aggressive timelines
Understanding of good laboratory technique and documentation practices
Attention to detail and methodical problem solving skills
Execute testing following approved methods and analytical test protocols 
Experience working with medically important strains of bacteria and yeasts preferred
Work with ISO 13485 and GMP quality systems with demonstrated experience working in BSL-2 laboratory environment preferred

Educational Requirements: 
Bachelor’s degree in field with 2-5 years’ experience, microbiology knowledge/experience is preferred.
