Main role / Job Objective:       

The IT Desktop Engineer contributes to providing a cost efficient, stable and effective IT infrastructure. You achieve a high internal user satisfaction via an appropriate quality of service offered to the Esko users. As a desktop engineer your job is to assemble and install the desktop, keeping all the system up to date with security fixes and patches. The combination of the physical desktop (MAC or Windows) with its applications and services around is called Unified Workspace. The Desktop engineer his primary role is to manage and provide support of this environment.

In addition you contribute to optimizing IT investments and securing the evolution of the IT architecture according to the Esko business needs and strategy.

Main responsibilities and key activities:

o    Responsible for the daily user-support, including:

o    Trouble shooting and problem solving on desktop and business applications, using a ticketing based system,

o    Setup, configuration and delivery of workstations (Windows and Mac);

o    Installation of software applications;

o    Test of new equipment.

o    Responsible for the ongoing maintenance and future planning needs of the company’s desktop environment

o    Monitor the performance of the company’s desktop infrastructure and make suggestions for improving efficiency

o    Communicate and co-operate with external partner(s) regarding problem solving.

o    Participate in the order fulfilment process for new IT systems, i.e. typically workstations.

o    Participate in making and updating documentation regarding IT procedures, frequently asked questions, knowledge base content, systems setup and systems maintenance.

o    To perform the system changes adhered to organizational policies

o    desktop engineer’s setup client workstations for specific projects. They configure end-user software, hardware and upgrade existing client desktops computers for best efficiency.

o    Take ownership of internal IT processes & procedures and drive continuous improvement. Pro-actively co-create and re-engineer internal procedures, and update/document. Take initiative and communicate/involve stakeholders.

o    Manage AD (Active Directory) objects and Group Policy in a mixed Windows/Mac environment. Troubleshoot and resolve GPO (Group Policy Object), AD replication, security, and permissions.

o    Assist in 2nd line troubleshooting activities for client hardware, operating systems and application software (performance related).

-      This role would be service desk & applications admin:

o    Using SCCM and JAMF to push applications, troubleshoot & compliance

o    Prepare standard applications so they can be automated through SCCM and Jamf

o    Testing new images and workstation version

Qualifications and professional knowledge:

o    3-5 years of relevant experience in an IT support role.

o    Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering or similar field

o    You have worked with a variety of IT support systems

o    Hands-on experience with Windows/Linux/Mac OS environments

o    ITIL certified is a must

o    Experience with PC operating systems, applications,anti virus knowledge and hardware for both Windows & Mac. Having expertise with Mac is considered a plus.

o    Security knowledge and awareness

o    Technology awareness of server technology (Citrix, VM Ware) is considered a plus

o    Experience working in an international and complex company.

o    Proficient in English

o    Possess cross cultural awareness with experience working along with international IT co-workers. (Europe preferred)

o    Excellent customer orientation skills

Competencies (personal qualifications):

o    Customer oriented, listens and responds to customer needs

o    Collaborate and interact with the IT team in our HQ located in Ghent, Belgium.

o    Problem solving, being able to handle complex problems in a dynamic environment. Good analytical skills

o    Proven ability to offer high level desktop support in an enterprise environment

o    Advanced knowledge of patch management and software distribution

o    Should be capable to communicate with other infrastructure teams

o    Structured and able to deal with multiple requests (multi-tasking). You can set priorities and work efficient.

o    Remain calm in stressful situations

o    Prioritize and manage several open issues at one time

o    Strong communication skills (being able to communicate at all levels in the organisation)
