The Buyer at ForteBio is responsible for planning & procurement of parts from multiple product lines in order to support the Build schedule of the company. S/he is also responsible for internal material requests.  The  Buyer is a strategic associate for the company as they will need to manage the inventory levels and at the same time, keep parts in stock for the Build.  S/he will monitor the Master Production Schedule as driven by the forecast and apply risk mitigation material replenishment strategies.  

The  Buyer will work closely with the Strategic Sourcing group on PPV and VAVE projects. The ideal candidate will have at have more than 5 years' experience working in a Supply Chain role in a Life Sciences, Biotech, or Diagnostic company. Strong communicator with ability to maintain open communication with internal employees, managers and suppliers as needed. Able to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner.  Ability and willingness to work as part of a team.  Through analysis and material management skills, h/she assists the company in meeting short term and long term production goals and keeps the supply chain active throughout, managing various aspects of Direct & Indirect materials.  

He/she uses the Oracle ERP system, lot sizing, reorder point and Kanban to plan material flow resulting in low levels of inventory and materials availability for the company build plan. Responsible for the negotiation and management of select commodities for Indirect and direct material, and for meeting Global Sourcing savings targets as well as serving as an escalation path for delivery, quality, and supplier management issues.  The ability to manage multiple complex projects and to develop the supply base to meet corporate and business unit objectives is critical.  You must have the ability to evaluate and select new suppliers along with Engineering, Quality and Regulatory and to select strategic partners worldwide.  

This position is based at ForteBio (Fremont, CA).  Domestic travel 10% to 30%, international travel possible (Europe and/or Asia).  

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain inventory for multiple product lines
  • Manage the planning and procurement of materials with the use of lot size, reorder-point & Kanban planning methodologies
  • Process and support all internal requisitions
  • Work with Strategic Sourcing on PPV & VAVE initiatives.
  • Resolve A/P issues for purchase orders.
  • Cycle Count management and reconciliation of cycle counts with team members.  Develop process improvements for cycle counting accuracy.
  • Lead for various projects as required (e.g. lead materials representative for ISO, Materials Project Lead for NPI, etc.)
  • Overall strategy and relationship management in both direct and indirect categories. 
  • Responsible to secure savings in line with annual objectives.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelors degree or above in Supply Chain, Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years of Supply Chain experience
  • Experience with Oracle a plus
  • Excellent negotiation and decision making skills
  • Experience in lean manufacturing,Usage of lean tools, for example: 5S, Standard Work, KANBAN, Policy Deployment, Value Stream Management, Visual Management.
  • Strong analytical skills, use of data to drive decisions
  • Advanced skills in PowerPoint, Excel, Word
