Description

Position Objectives: 

• Working within the R&D group to develop automation on production systems for the Biopharmaceutical market.  
• Develop automation from the early phase, managing specifications, design, industrialization, and transfer to manufacturing as part of a global multi-disciplinary product development team.  
• This role will focus on common standards for automation architecture and overall strategy in collaboration with hardware and software engineering. 
• Interact with and support other departments and outsourced teams (such as supply chain, quality, logistics and product management) to facilitate handover and ensure all have required knowledge of products.

Role and Duties:

Be a resource for ongoing development projects by: 

• Working with process experts to translate bioprocess requirements into automated system user requirements and functional specifications.
• Working with automation suppliers to review technical documents e.g. software design specifications. 
• Defining what tests need to be performed on the automated system to meet the functional requirements then executing these test procedures.
• Transferring qualified design packages to engineering group for customer configuration.
• Authoring documentation for internal audiences as well as end users.
• Providing ongoing expertise for technical problem solving post-launch.  Collaborating with maintenance teams during development and assisting with generation of strong maintenance procedures.
• Travel will vary according to project needs but may be up to 30% across multiple months.  

Job Requirements



Qualifications

Minimum BSc degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering/(Bio)chemical engineering or closely allied discipline.
Knowledge of GAMP (Good Automated Manufacturing Practices).

Desirable Skills :

• Proven experience in industrial automation engineering or relevant product design.
• Proven track record of product development including management of outside contractors, automation architecture design, authorship of specifications, maintenance of appropriate documentation and ability to work within a global multi-disciplinary team.
• Demonstrated success in leadership including developing and executing project plans and reporting plans/results to management. 
• PLC and HMI programming : Rockwell, Siemens & Wonderware system platform.
• Wiring industrial control panels.
• Knowledge or some experience of building/designing SCADA systems.
• Knowledge or some experience of building/designing recipe managers according to ISA-88.
• Familiarity with the biopharmaceutical industry and applicable security regulations.
