Duties and responsibilities include programming robot and machine controllers used in production, debug and fix equipment issues, and proactively minimize downtime by identifying the root causes of machine and process issues before they happen. In this role, the candidate will develop a deep understanding of the production controls systems and how they interface with other plant systems.

Day to Day Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve automation & controls systems (Robots, PLCs, HMIs, etc.) on the production floor to ensure optimal equipment operation and improve uptime and product quality metrics.
  • Identify the underlying reason behind automation & controls systems issues and drive to the root cause.
  • Support new equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Act as the equipment and technology receiver for robotic and controls systems.
  • Support production after install to solve issues and train personnel.
  • Plan electrical machine improvement, troubleshoot electrical problems, and execute electrical upgrade plans.
  • Collaborate with other engineering groups to align with plant priorities.
  • Provide technical guidance to develop training documentation, operating procedures, troubleshooting documents, and work instructions.
  • Provide automation & controls expertise to multi-functional teams when needed.
  • Update engineering documents and drawings as changes are made to the systems.
  • Identify and lead improvements to existing controls systems.
  • Align new systems to plant and corporate standards.
  • Follow electrical safety requirement and implement safe practices.

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 to 5 year of automation and/or controls experience.
  • PLC Ladder logic programming training and/or experience.
  • Training and/or experience with HMIs and SCADA systems.
  • Experience in reading electrical drawings and machine installation wiring verification.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to find the underlying reason for issues.

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills: 
  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience in FANUC robot programming.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens PLC’s.
  • Exposure working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in implementing control strategies.
  • Experience with VFDs and servos.
  • Project management experience preferred.
