Job Description:

The Associate Scientist position is in the Oncology R&D group and is primarily a bench level job focusing on design and development of molecular based assays for Oncology. The ideal candidate will help to develop and optimize real time PCR and RT-PCR assays for cancer diagnostics particularly hematologic and circulating tumor DNA mutations. The candidate will plan and execute laboratory research, demonstrate appropriate technical proficiency and scientific creativity. The candidate will be expected to interface with various internal departments as well as external agencies and collaborators.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate, test and develop new procedures.
  • Performs real-time PCR optimization experiments using DOE (Design of Experiments)
  • Performs analytical verification studies to demonstrate GeneXpert assay performance based on design input requirements.
  • Follows product development lifecycle process and design control
  • Maintains detailed experimental records and documents results in a technical report in a laboratory notebook.
  • Analyzes data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel or Minitab.
  • Present data at technical meetings.

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of related work experience or Master's degree in field with 0-2 years of related work experience preferably at a molecular diagnostics company. Experience in Oncology preferred.
  • Real time PCR or RT-PCR and product development experience.
  • DNA and RNA purification experience.
  • Possess skills/knowledge in handling clinical samples and be able to work in a BSL-2 environment.
  • Help write verification SOPs and technical reports.
  • Excellent documentation and communications skills.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs.
  • Be highly goal-oriented and organized and be able to thrive in an atmosphere of shifting demands and priorities.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team-based environment and with outside collaborators is a requirement.
  • Self-driven and flexible who can allocate time and resources efficiently, effectively prioritize, and continually seek ways to improve individual and corporate efficiency.
