Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Plays a key role in Product Transfer - Sustain and Support by combining a deep expertise in molecular biology/real-time PCR and a technical understanding of Cepheid systems to solve complex manufacturability and design issues. Identifies and implements streamlined and improved product and process changes. May lead activities of cross-functional teams to maintain routine production of Cepheid assays and drive product improvements to sustain manufacturability, improve margins and ensure product quality.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies and leads the development and implementation of strategic improvements required for improving manufacturability of reagents and assays under moderate guidance.
  • Identifies and manages the validation and implementation of process and raw material improvements to achieve scale-up, cost effectiveness and improved product quality. 
  • Plans, validates and implements improved manufacturing techniques and new process equipment in production as appropriate.
  • Occasionally performs testing of biological/chemical assays to support ongoing Product Transfer activities and goals. Analyzes data and participates in root cause analysis and design of solutions.
  • Provides technical leadership for activities in other departments with regard to production excellence, including Incoming Inspection, Reference Material, Reagent Formulation, and Product Testing.
  • Acts as liaison with Design and Development, Failure Investigation and New Product Introduction to ensure processes and designs are compatible and projects are aligned.
  • Effectively collaborates and manages the progress of cross-functional projects with an efficient use of resources and timelines, and provides executive level updates on a regular basis, under moderate guidance.

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (MINIMAL COMPETENCIES)

  • MS degree in a Life Science or Engineering Discipline, or
  • BS with 2 years in-depth technical leadership in cross-functional projects in a regulated industry
  • In-depth knowledge of Molecular Biology techniques and Assay Development
  • Excellent organization
  • Excellent communication skills, including written reports and oral presentation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with Real-Time PCR and Molecular Diagnostic Assays
  • Experience in transfer of products from Design to Production, cross-functional experience with Operations departments
  • Practical understanding and use of statistical techniques for data analysis
