Essential Job Responsibilities

Responsible for tissue processing and slide preparation
Maintain/track collected samples and slides
Perform a variety of staining techniques, including immunohistochemical procedures, for microscopic evaluation. 
Perform tasks related to fixation and processing of specimens.
Cut, prepare, and stain slides from histology specimens.
Prepare special stains, immunohistochemistry stains and solutions.
Perform quality control on sections and staining procedures to ensure a high quality finished product
Perform routine H&E stains as well as special stains
Order reagents and tool parts to ensure adequate supplies for the work.
Operate and evaluate histology equipment and reagent systems. 
Maintain FFPE blocks, slides and log H&E stained and pathologist-annotated FFPE tissue slides into the database., 
Keep abreast with company's current policies and histology-related technical updates.
Demonstrate an ability and willingness to assume independent responsibility for tissue sample custody
Assist he Clinical affairs/Sample Biorepository team and the Oncology R&D/MSASO team for in-house specimen collections (such as healthy urine samples) for assay development needs
Able to organize and prioritize specimens and tasks in an efficient and timely manner
Support Oncology Development teams with analytical verification studies Demonstrate GeneXpert assay performance based on design input requirements.
Perform real-time PCR optimization experiments using DOE (Design of Experiments)
Follow product Bachelor’s development lifecycle process and design control
Analyze data using statistical tools such as Microsoft Excel or Minitab.
Present data at internal technical meetings and maintain detailed experimental records.

Job Requirements


Education or Experience
Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of related work experience OR
Master’s degree in field with 0-2 years of related work experience relevant field - e.g. Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biology, Genetics or related field.
Two or more years of experience in a histology laboratory setting within the last five years.
Experience adjusting microtome chuck/FFPE block surface for recuts highly desirable.
Experience performing nucleic acid extraction/purifications, real time PCR or RT-PCR optimizations is highly desirable.
Knowledge and skills:

Knowledge in handling clinical samples such as human blood, plasma and formalin-fixed FFPE tissues and ability to work in a BSL-2 environment. 
Knowledge of biological and chemical safety.
Experience handling clinical specimens and performing histology and microbiology work in BSL-1 and BSL-2 laboratory settings.
Ability to ask questions and check for clarity and understanding.
Ability to understand the key underlying principles of experimental procedures
Effective written and oral communication skills, presenting data within the technical team and department.
Proficiency with standard Microsoft computer programs, and Statistical analysis tools such as Minitab or JMP.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
HTL-ASCP/HTN-ASCP Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology is highly desirable
